What I imagine Fox struggling with is the impending lack of supply of a shit ton of consumer goods in the US, which will lead to higher prices, and maybe even shortages, of important things like toasters

It's hard to overstate how much more impactful a single story can be to public opinion. If the media were to just start running story after story of immigrants being deported, the message would absolutely get muddied. By keeping the focus on this one case, this case maintains political momentum.
