She actually said:

"I’m not a racist,” she said through heavy emotion, adding that her daughter is half Black and she herself is mixed race and a member of the LGBTQ community. “Everybody seems to be turning it into that, and that was not my intent."

Lee said she pulled her daughter out of school and is now worried about her safety with so much attention on her family. She is also concerned for the safety of the Haitian community, which she said she did not intend to villainize en masse.

“I feel for the Haitian community,” she said. “If I was in the Haitians’ position, I’d be terrified, too, worried that somebody’s going to come after me because they think I’m hurting something that they love and that, again, that’s not what I was trying to do.”

These aren't the words of some MAGA devotee, she seems pretty genuine on this and I don't see any reason not to believe her. I instead blame those who have purposefully worsened and spread this rumor for racist ends. Imagine if you made an offhand post on Lemmy that inadvertently spun up a rumor that reached a fucking presidential.debate, I bet you'd be caught pretty off guard by that.

Remember how Trump's inner circle from his last time around either all disavowed the man or have spent the last 3 years in courtrooms and bankruptcy proceedings?

A shipment is eligible for the de minimis exemption if the aggregate fair retail value of the articles imported is $800 or less. De minimis shipments enter the United States with less information than other imports and are not subject to duties and taxes.

The growing volume of de minimis shipments makes it increasingly difficult to target and block illegal or unsafe shipments. Foreign corporate giants who exploit the de minimis exemption do so for a variety of reasons. Some companies exploit the de minimis to conceal shipments of illegal and dangerous products and avoid compliance with U.S. health and safety and consumer protection laws. Other foreign entities use it to circumvent U.S. trade enforcement actions intended to level the playing field for American workers, retailers, and manufacturers.

With today’s announcement, the Administration is using executive authority to stop the abuse of the de minimis exemption.

I have no problem with this. This exemption was designed for individuals and small businesses to avoid import taxes, we clearly shouldn't let large corporations abuse it.

How braindead do you have to be to call Temu a "free market?" They exploit a loophole in the tax code to undercut competitors, and in so doing use way more packaging materials and expend significantly more energy per item in trans-oceanic transportation than typical bulk trade does

What you quoted here doesn't explain why or how any of that happened or who did it

This is par for the course in an acquisition in any industry, lay off all the admin staff at the acquired company because the parent company already has HR and marketing depts ready to step in. I don't like that it happens, but it do

With Trump, I think this goes way deeper than a learned strategy to claim victory no matter what. Trump has narcissistic personality disorder, and his brain can't conceive of a situation where he doesn't win. At his core are such deep-seated insecurities about himself that the only way his brain can cope with itself is to never show vulnerability by creating a fictional narrative in which he's the winner all the time. It would be incredibly pathetic if it weren't so terrifying. Someone like him who wasn't born into extreme wealth would be lonely and broke right now

I'm sure many other jobs aren't like this, but where I work we don't have to give any reason at all to use our sick leave. Since one of the official definitions of "sick" in the Cambridge Dictionary is "very good, excellent," you wouldn't even be lying.
