Yeap, it seems so. Next time ill try using a friend for my rubber duck ๐Ÿ˜„

This is how I try to approach voting on here. Even if I post a comment disagreeing with the OPs take ill still give them an upvote because it made me have a conversation

Id fuckin' read that!

Excuse you! But also I do hate myself

I started with ubuntu initially, and appreciate the fact that it wasnt entirely foreign to me coming from windows. Being a techy person, whenever something broke I obviously had to use the terminal to fix it (because all forum posts online use it for troubleshooting) but it was nice to ease into it. Once I got comfortable with that I then moved on to more non-windows like distributions, and eventually ended up where I am now - with arch and a tiling window manager - something entirely different to windows. If I had started with this Im not sure I would have stuck it out.

So my take on your take is that while you have valid points, we need to always take situations with context. Sure, I wouldn't (and don't) recommend super windows-like distros to the guys at my work (IT) who are more technically capable, but if my grandmother or grandfather used computers and for whatever reason we needed to make the switch to linux, I would try to make the transition as seamless and familiar as possible, so I might even have made their UI look like windows. Computers are tools at the end of the day, and every person has something different they want to get out of them.

Not sure if done on purpose or you didn't realise at the time, but you basically just (i hope xD) rickrolled the piped devs and anyone else looking at the issues in future for solutions ๐Ÿคฃ

Thanks, ill look in there, and ignore that step if it doesn't exist, then do step 5. :)

Could you please elaborate on the full path for the arch.conf file? I looked at /usr/share/systemd/bootctl/arch.conf and there was no initrd /amd-ucode.img (or intel-ucode.img) line, instead all I had was initrd /initramfs-linux.img

Furthermore, for step 3 I didnt have any entry starting with ALL_microcode=

I have yet to do step 5 fyi. Thank you

I see the other comments are mentioning instagram, and I'd like to add that if you see a tattoo in the wild that you like you can ask the person about it, and also ask the person for their artist's instagram and get it that way :)

Hey guys, what are the pros and cons to wayland if I intend to use my PC for gaming + others?

Comparisons to X?

General impressions?

Your advice on if I should use it or stick with X?

My PC parts are arriving soon, and while Ive been a linux user since 2016 its the first time I intend to fully main drive linux, so I guess im just looking for as much information as I can get on it.

Feel free to post links to articles or anything that will answer if you prefer, we're on a link aggregator after all ;) and I dont mind reading.

Thanks in advance :)

So in their reply they basically give me the standard "delete your posts and comments manually, then delete your account through this form" spiel, to which I could technically reply that it is their responsibility to delete the data and not mine.

However, if possible I would like to keep my reddit account for a little longer so I can still see posts that are helpful, at least until the fediverse kicks off totally. I assume that under GDPR I cant specify which data I would like deleted and which kept, its either all or nothing, so I'll avoid asking them to remove it all for the time being.

However from a GDPR standpoint, if I dont delete my account as well in additin to posts+comments and notice that 6 months down the line theyve brought back some of my content without my consent even after I delete it, could I take action against them?

How should I word my reply to them notifying them that even though it is their job I will be deleting my posts and comments but not the account, so that I am legally covered for the future?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Hello everyone.

I just forked this and added my own 2 themes to my fork. Both themes are based on the winternord theme contained within that repository. In the theme the author, 2xx04 clearly states at the top that their code contains modifications to Bootstrap's CSS, as well as the Nord colour scheme by Arctic Ice Studio & Sven Greb. Both of those repositories contain the MIT license, but 2xx04's repository contains no license.

My question is this: Even though technically any github repository with no license has the default copyright rules applied to it (i.e. the author has sole ownership), since they failed to include the license of the software they modified, my repository should include the MIT license, and any code written by me is mine (under MIT license rules of course, so anyone can copy and distribute it)?

Thanks in advance. Here is a link to my repository in case you need it to understand what I mean

Hey everyone. I made two themes inspired and based off the winternord theme some of you may have seen already in your instances. One is a darker, more contrasty theme (icy-nord-darker) based on the other (icy-nord). They are very simple, but they do fix some issues I had with winternord, such as some text being very hard to read because of its colour, or the background image often interfering with the foreground and making it hard to read stuff.

Let me know what you think, any suggestions, what you like, and what you dislike.

Windows blue screen (iusearchlinux.fyi)

I work as level 1 IT at a university, and one day recently we had a bunch of guys from M$ come for a 3 day long seminar/conference on security, hosted at the uni.

When they arrived it was my job to get them setup (give them extra HDMIs because our setup is basically docking stations locked in boxes, and there was no way I would be installing drivers on each and every PC they had.

Anyway, the first guy I was helping setup had a Windows logo on his laptop (do they make hardware as well?), running Win11. It took all of about 3 minutes for his laptop to blue screen.

I just looked at him, shrugged, and cheekily said, "Windows, amirite".

I did not get a response, funnily enough xD

It might be a better move to go through the official channels for those who have them available, rather than using bots to delete the posts and comments. Of course, those of us who will make this request and have it complied with by reddit, will need to periodically check back to make sure they don't sneakily restore our content. I've read posts and comments of people who deleted their content months ago and noticed reddit restored it now.

Edit: I know its all in German, but with a little translation you can get the necessary information

Hello everyone. Im looking for a simple system that can be played by something like 3-5 people, which is simple enough to be played by an 11 year old. My sister is in her Harry Potter phase so magic and fantasy wizard setting is really helpful. I need it to be simple enough where I can teach it to my family in a night, and we can get right into whatever story I end up DMing (for the first time) for them. I really want to spend some time with my sister over the summer engaging her imagination.

Suggestions please :D

Edit: you people are wonderful, I'll check all your suggestions out for sure!

I just logged in and checked my reddit account, and all my deleted posts have come back.

Hey guys, anyone else having trouble with lemmy.ml? I'm still in pending status after a couple days. I've tried the toggle trick on the subscribe button, but no go. Basically all lemmy.ml subscriptions are still pending, which means content from their sublems doesnt show in my feed while browsing my default setting: Subscribed

Is this because of the massive influx of users? Shouldn't they have dealt with that by now?

After the (temporary) defederation announcement of earlier i checked the Lemmy repo to see if there was already a ticket on the federation limiting option like Mastodon's that people mentioned Lemmy doesn't yet have. Not only i didn't find it, i also saw that there's about 200+ open tickets of variable importance. Also saw that it's maintained mostly by the two main devs, the difference in commits between them and even the next contributors is vast. This is normal and in other circumstances it'd grow organically, but considering the huge influx of users lately, which will likely take months to slow down, they just don't have the same time to invest on this, and many things risk being neglected. I'm a sysadmin, haven't coded anything big in at least a decade and a half beyond small helper scripts in Bash or Python, and haven't ever touched Rust, so can't help there, but maybe some of you Rust aficionados can give some time to help essentially all of Lemmy. The same can be said of Kbin of course, although that's PHP, and there is exacerbated by it being just the single dev.
