I just tried to look something up and the top result was a reddit thread and here I am making a post on kbin.
But it got me thinking about how this blackout looks to a search engine. Effectively, I did not find what I was looking for and instead I was shunted off to another site eventually. This will continue to happen to more people more times and eventually, maybe results will start to change. Wouldn't they have to?
I truly think I'm underestimating the effect this blackout will have on reddit as a website. This thinking is based only on how many people search questions (like me) and know they'll find exactly what they need in a reddit thread.
But as of now, that is no longer the case.
I hope the reddit blackout lasts a long time, longer than anyone could imagine, because I think that will make it hurt the most. I'm honestly proud to see this level of organization and it is my hope that someone will eat the words "the blackout will pass", preferably with some sauce, but not enough.
