Yes, it is problem in osm data but that doesn't mean that there aren't people that just want something to work, the komoot atd makes it quite easy to see where people have gone and should be passable. And unfortunately most people have the consumer mindset about this.

Yeah the Czech touristic club is bit bitchey about that data and gives it only to the Czech equivalent to Google (seznam) but all of it is still in OSM. The paper maps are made by few companies and they are bit pricey too but I wouldn't tell that the data are looked down. There are some people trying to get it fixed (to be officially added to osm).

It wouldn't be that bad if the routes were at least planned, validated and marked somewhere. By planning in Brouter and OsmAnd I got multiple times spit out in the middle of fields without any route or in front of locked gate. If there would be some routes you can just load in your computer and follow, but no you have to rely a bit on your judgement and map reading skills.

The luxury of Czech routes that can be followed without GPS nav or even paper maps is its own league of map info that is just not available elsewhere. So I really understand why it is appealing to ride or even pay for that info.

I don't know where are you from, so just my perspective from around Europe as I traveled.

In some places like Spain and Portugal the cycling routes aren't developed that much with signage or even half planned, it is bit local. You can get by with OSM OK-ish but I started to look up some of these routes scattered around the web.

In France and Belgium it more depends on the region so sometimes the routes are bit sparse and far away from each other. But the maps were really good for finding these connections between them. Otherwise most official routes are marked with standardized signage.

In CZ you have really dense cycling and hiking route network. It has standardized signage and is managed by 1 organisation since late 1800. So you can get pretty much everything on one place, the "secret" routes are only the different routes you connect together to make your trip. Some long distance routes like ViaCzechia uses the markings and you get the itinerary on the web or you can buy a book.

So it depends I can see why the people use it in some places it is nearly necessary, other places it can be nice to have and somewhere it can just give you an idea where to go but it isn't needed at all.

No, I will contact few people on Mastodon that play with it and offer webhosting.

As some of them said that it is the best way to support the running of the instance - make them business so they can run fediverse on side.

Good question. But I don't know if I satisfy you with my answer.

I am getting to it, if you look at my older posts (and my mastodon) you can get the idea what I am doing since January.

So the thing is that I don't have the nerves to type more than few posts per week on Mastodon. But I want to do some write up on it and post it as a complete thing on one place and then link it/ repost it to social media. The blog will be the reference to the posts and resource for others that wants more structured info about it.

I didn't write it in my reply, so exactly this is something I am looking to.

Basically some integration with fediverse but in this case I am looking to do it bit backwards add it to the wanderer and link it/embed it on the blog.

I read it yesterday and tbh this sentiment I get from most of these services.

So I plan locally, store the gpx files and don't share them yet. After I get home I will probably start a classic blog where I will laid it out for everyone.

As most people ~3 weeks.

I have 3 season camping gear so shelter wouldn't be an issue. Water filter so that's taken care of. The food will be an issue, European forests aren't the best for foraging, I could probably catch some rabbit and get some mushrooms.

BUT as I don't know nearly enough about wild food near me I will have to resort to experimentation and some poison would get me.

To give you more of an answer than the other guy:

It needs to be national, most of these pesticides are restricted use only. You have to have license to buy it and use it. I don't know how it works specifically in France but most probably there is some bodie that regulates it use in whole France. It is one market so if it is permitted somewhere it will get everywhere.

Bearings are smoothest when they are worn out. So if you have replacement I would just change it.

This is maceration not fermentation but I unintentionally did something similar with red currants and wine. I don't know how I made it but it was partly fermented with sugar wine and vodka (or some other clear distillate) to add more alcohol to be stable.

Found bottle few weeks ago and it was amazing, I forgot about it after I tasted it and don't liked it few years ago.

I don't like distillates that much, bit too strong for me, but basically fruit+bit of sugar+time+still and you have some eastern Europe pálenka/slivovice (from plums) or other "moonshine".

So I managed to find 80% food grade alcohol (it was harder than you might thought) and started the all season maceration.

Basically every fruit that I will get or pick I just put few pieces there and let it sit, the tasting will be at Christmas or sometime in December. First layer is red currant, I already used it for some maceration so I know it starts good.

Lol, in the Czechoslovakia some regions were divided before war - Sudetenland was proper part of the Germany, protectorate which was officially occupied and Slovakian nazi regime.

So when the Soviet army came they behaved quite differently depending where they have been because only some of it was liberated other parts were conquered.

First of all sorry I broke my phone and my backup phone can't resize pictures so I can't directly load them here.

So if some of you follow my mastodon account you know that I got to Brussels, damn 2 months not posting here and where I got.

In France I met El and she showed me a bit around the coast, we were riding together for a week there. Each of us wanted to see something bit different so we split in Nantes and I promised that I will join her in CZ to show her around. So that's what's happening now I am in train riding through Germany (not yet) and have spare time pretty much all night (I don't expect that I will get much sleep). If you have any questions about my journey don't hesitate to ask.

So I am on big tour. And I should finally post some pics here even though most of them are on mastodon. If you want to check it: https://f.cz/@plactagonic I try to post pretty regular updates from my tour there.

First week I rode from Madrid to Valencia, I had planned to take Camino del Cid but I naively expected that it will be signed. So I quickly get on my own route and had a blast with some hilly sections.

This is Albarracín, nice medival village with castle.

In Valencia I stayed for 2 days to get some rest and at least look around the city center. But it is a pain sometimes to get in and out of cities here, from Madrid I had to take a train and here it was on sometimes missing cycle path. You just see all the faces of the country when you are bikepacking.

When I was leaving Valencia I met Sejdeborns (they have a YT channel) on their tour from Sweden to Morocco. They were on tandem bike so they took path along the coast, let me tell you don't take the path it is ugly I took only one pick when it was just missing. Go inland!

From there it was pretty much on Via Verde routes that are made from old railways so I have lots of pics of tunnels.

And through olive orchards so it became quite repetitive. I decided in Alicante that because of high headwind forecasted I should go inland. Yeah even inland there was headwind... 3 days of it. But I grinded through this inconvenience and now I am in Seville and next week I should be in Portugal where I will take the Atlantic coast route.

So thats what is going on right now on my tour, it is just a sneak peek, as I write in the beginning I try to post dayli on mastodon. I can tag it that it appears in this community but from my experience it just doesn't look right (the formatting).

Everything was covered with the "frost" more like a ice sheet.

It was fine nothing broken but I was bit scared when I saw it.

So Friday is the d-day for me.

I will tour for half a year, starting in Madrid and don't have a plan. Only thing is that I have to be back home in June.

This month photo for this regular discussion thread is from my summer trip, I visited few craft brewerys and tasted local beers.

As usual share whatever brewing related - questions, recipes, successes, bad batches...

I will be away for some time (~6 months) but should be reachable. I will travel through Europe (Spain, France, Portugal, Germany,...) when I post about this in relevant community I will link it here. Keep it chill here so I don't have to worry on road.

My last few brews turned out amazing and I am glad that I will be away and they will have time to age. Otherwise I would have drink them in few months, someone told me that ciders are best after 1-2 years of aging so finally it may get the chance to survive that long.

Edit: If you want to ask me something about my plans I posted about it on !bicycle_touring@lemmy.world

Today I and my dad opened his Christmas beer with rosemary. It is great, lighter for special beer and with notes of rosemary.

This photo is from few weeks ago when I connected with few guys for homemade cider tasting. Mine ciders will be for tomorrow, and all are great.

Cautionary children story, the text is just rhymed description of the pictures.

I don't know exactly when and where it was published, maybe it is from 1950 book with same name.
