Guy plays guitar and uke. Teaches kids music, gigged every day. Doesn't consider himself a musician. I think you're a more active musician than most professionals lol.

You in Melbourne? What kind of music do you like listening to?

[–] phonics@lemmy.world 1 points 4 minutes ago

Yeah that counts. Have you found a boopbox community on reddit?

Your video is an interesting concept. I do wonder though about switching genres each album. I get why, but as a consumer you'd have to let them know what to expect. That it's all about exploration. Because let's say your 2nd album pops off and goes viral for its hiphop. If you make your next album classical choir acapellas, you are essentially alienating your audience. Unless they know you pulling some weird shit from the beginning like 'I love robots' on netflix. You know what I mean? Feel like you'd lose momentum across time unless your audience expressly follows you because they want to see you explore in every direction.

But who am I to say anything, Im just a dude replying on the internet

I've actually been thinking of getting vocal lessons again. But my vocals aren't what's holding my music making back, I gotta get to making the content and marketing etc. So trying to not spread myself too thin. But man, when Im a billionaire, you know for damn sure imma have a cello with a sparkly ball at the end.

I think finding an electric guitar tone you like is half the battle.

I'm slowly moving to linux. Haven't checked if addictive drums works there yet. I don't know if you just assumed they sound plastic but it actually slaps I think. No one has ever told me my drums sound like shit.

That's the thing though. Sub to specific and sub to general, it only takes a few seconds and it's free. So no real downside

Your right. I can hear it now.

My guitarist has been a jazz player for 20 years. It's fantastic. My band is working on funk originals. And I can say make that chord sadder and he can get it in more ways than just changing to minor. I can say hey, make my vocal land as the 7th to a chord and he can just find it. like damn. I have enough theory to get creative but it takes me ages to work it out. But it's all at the tip of his fingers. Amazing.

I suspect there are a decent amount of people from major cities on here. If you start one of these asklemmy threads saying 'hey any people from tokyo here' and then in the text field just out a tokyo specific community address in there and say let's congregate here. You'll prolly get 20 people. This community has 11k MAU which is large enough to get a lil something going I'd think.

This is great! I think the ones that get more subs will generally rise to the top and people will start congregating there.

I'm seeing a bunch of upvotes on peoples comments here. I'm hoping that those people are also subbing to the communities they see in here.

I'm gonna try to remember to post this kind of question maybe once a month and over time we'll get communities popping off.

I suspect most people aren't subbing/following communities on Lemmy. So post the community or topic you want to see pop off. And reader(that's you) if you are interested in that community click the link and follow it.

👏Let's 👏 start 👏 coordinating 👏 people.

Music discussion is very lacking here for. Compared to reddit. And yeah I know, 'just post then'. But when I search for music communities here they're empty. And it makes sense because no-one is posting. So kind of a catch 22.

now i dont exactly know how all this lemmy stuff works but... to all you musos out there, can you join me and search for music under communities (I'm using summit app) and just at a minimum subscribe to all the ones that you would be interested in(if they were popping off)?

At least that way when one of us posts, the rest of us will actually see it (I suspect).

Anyway. Keep making the world more fun for everyone else.

P.s if your not a musician, but you like golf or something, subscribe to the golf communities even if they're empty.
