Phone Link can be used for that? When I set it up all it gave me was texts and notifications that only worked half the time. I found it quite disappointing.

Ikea's line of smart home stuff is the best generally available consumer friendly smart home stuff I've seen so far. All zigbee based, hub isn't required, has local control and open APIs.

Public companies will always screw you over

however they are using cookies so I assume they will be logging IPs too

You don't need to log IPs to use cookies nor do cookies imply IP logging

But when you see it on your screen it's supposed to be converted back into the actual character, otherwise it would be pointless. So if you're seeing & then the website is messing up.

"standard" is that the character you input stays as the same character and isn't transformed. The fact that it's being shown as & means that either OP is using a client which isn't correctly decoding html, or its being double sanitised as &. Neither tog those is "standard", it's a bug.

Bitcoin is never going to be wisely used for it's intended purpose. It's been too sold as as investment that you buy and sell rather than a currency.

Ask anyone in the UK and they'll tell you the next county over from them

No because that opens the door for more complicated situations. Alice is late one day due to traffic or a road closure, does she get more compensation? What if Bob can't drive so his commute takes longer? What if he can drive, but chooses not to?

The biggest risk for a smart lock is that the company shuts down and you've wasted your money if they don't work properly without cloud connection. I'd probably avoid ones that can be opened with a magnet, but any that can be easily picked isn't really a problem that you're likely to run into
