They’re doing exactly what they’re supposed to be doing. These are reasons you should disregard what they have to say as irreconcilably biased and self serving.

Being well adjusted by normie terms. Like doing road rage because you’re miserable all the time but unwilling to do any critical analysis about why so you’re a live wire. Then you get drunk with your buds and say a bunch of degrading things to eachother and claim it’s just proof you’re real friends to the end. All while complaining about your annoying wife who you’ve been emotionally unavailable to for a decade but it’s her fault not yours. And don’t get you started about your weird Bernie bro cousin who doesn’t understand how the world works! Then you get in bed with a tear in your eye because America is the greatest country on earth and have a fitful night of undiagnosed sleep apnea.

Real solutions can be appraised and given a realistic cost or profit potential. Made up dumb nonsense is better for a world that is fully financialized because the people who are supposed to make money have a monopoly on the ‘information’ and control the inputs enough that they can abandon their house of cards at exactly the right time to extract the maximum wealth and leave the public holding the bag.

Hard to boil it down but I’ll say what goes through my mind when I read jokes about it. First, it was the consequences of our own imperialism coming home to roost, and the death toll is nothing compared to our previous or subsequent “adventures” in the Middle East. Second, remember during the height of Covid counting daily deaths in 9/11’s, but half the country slept on that, and 4x as many people starve to death here every year but food stamps get cut and poor people get spat on instead of having memorials built for them. Third, the reaction to 9/11 basically ended any serious anti war energy this country ever had, it gave our leaders justification and consent to do the shit they already wanted to do, it ushered in the blood thirsty imperial era many of us grew up in. So for me, the way people talk about it like this totem, this singular National tragedy, this moment of unimaginable American victimhood… It’s so incredibly tone deaf and uninformed that it sickens me, and seeing someone mock that kind of tone sarcastically is cathartic in a way.
