Also, thanks for 10ft gnome. That looks helpful. I'm hoping that my new tv will be able to install jellyfish clients

I know that there have been blog post about setting up an htpc using uuntu as the os.

The Australia section is automatically on as it detect where I am. I expect that where I search for things, it prioritises results from Australia. For example if I am look at tax information, Latvia's taxation law will not help me.

It is more that these web pages are probably all LLM written, and so they poison the search results. Not so much LLM search results/helpers at the top of a results page.

Read the barefoot investor. Has some great tips for kids pocket money, as well as a simple way to educate them on how to use it.

It boils down to splitting the money into spend, safe, give. Spend for lollies and random crap, save to work towards buying something big (like a computer game, RC car etc) and give to teach them the joy of helping someone else.

He also recommends that you should pay cash, so that money is real and they value it. Cards are intangible and impossible for for kids (and most adults) to really understand what they are spending.

We have used this with our son and it has worked well.

Thankfully it isn't, currently during at 16.

Unfortunately we still know some people who are missing :(

The poor buggers have a decade of work ahead of them to clean up,l and repair/replace everything.

Thanks, but we will be on grid.

That is a good point

My jellyfin server is all set up and ready to go.l, but I want to replace my Kodi box, it is just painful.

Is there a nice way to setup a rPi to run as a client, that just turns on and looks like a media centre? Ie, it loads up and is ready to go at power on?

Ta

Hi all, I am looking for a starter tablet to show tabs, and in the future potentially musical notation.

As a starter into i am looking for ideas on what sort of tablet. Is 10" big enough? and what are some good apps for it?

My preference is Android, but if all else fails, an iPad could work.

cheers

Hi fellow hosters! I really did not know where to ask this question - and i thought you lot are pretty similar to me. If you can think of somewhere else to post this, please let me know!

I am looking for a solution to be able to host my own books (something like calibre i guess), that i can easily push them to a yet-to-be-purchased eReader.

Firstly - What eReader are you using that allows you to add any number of book sources to? i would also like to include my local library subscription, as well as locally hosted and purchased ones.

Secondly - Any hints on hosting a book collection. (Readarr v calibre, etc), where you get books from, removing DRM from eBooks that you buy, that sort of stuff.

thanks!

I think that these are firmly embeded in many peoples minds. Very catchy and has a great message!

Hey lemmings.

I find that I am not seeing what I am Interested in from the smaller comms I have subscribed to.

Is there a way to increase their visibility?

I was think it would be useful to put a multiplier on the scores of various comms, ie !perth@aussie.zone can have a 5x multiplier so that is see more of those posts, in comparison to other larger comms.

I am having to go to the comms explicitly to see their posts.

Cheers!

This is a great article that uses real data to see how our grid world perform with greater wind, solar and storage. It shows that we can easily achieve a 95% renewable grid with a modest level of storage.

What i really like about this, is it has been running for 2 years now, and it is pragmatic about its aims (ie, not 100%), it aims for reality (this is real data that is collected weekly), and it looks at the cost (in $$ and CO2-e).

He sets some targets (60% Wind, 45% Solar + storage), then works off of the actual data to scale the wind & solar generation, to see how it would meet demand. excess is accumulated in storage (theoretical battery storage and actual hydro), and shortfalls is taken from storage.

The really nice part shows where "other" is required, in Australia's case, existing fossil fueled peaker plants.

I often use his 1st year report to have the discussion with "non-believers" to show what is possible, and where the gaps are to achieveing a renewable grid.

Have a read and let me know what you think.
