I think that is a bit of a mis-direct. We don't need that now, but we do need to develop it. There are plenty of electricity sources that provide enough for industry (plenty of hydro as a simple example).

The chemical processes require research and subsequent change, but removing thermal coal and just using coking coal is a massive reduction in coal usage. Maybe that is ok to get us over the hump. There is a lot of research into direct reduced iron, which is an example of removing coal from that particular process. It is not impossible, but currently maybe not too easy.

There is a lot of research into hard to abate sectors, I actually work for a heavy mining company that is doing just that.

Aluminum smelting is doing a lot of work going to renewables as it is cheaper and more sustainable for them.

It does take a an operational strategy change for it to work though., but it is possible in a lot of sectors.

Probably because it is not selfhosted nor is it a web app??

Note, I use fossify calendar, but I still would like a self hosted web app calendar system

This article ignores a lot of reality when it comes to firming renewables, and my paranoia was triggered when they wrote mainstream media.

Shilling out for the fossil fuel lobby.

Sure, it is not going to be easy, or quick (enough), but cost is going to drive out the more expensive forms of generation, which will be coal and gas.

have you tried the "do not ask again' check box? I seem to recall it asking, but i just tried then and it doesn't ask me any more. try again and see if there is the check box so it doesn't come up again.

Surely there is more than that which is an issue?

[–] palitu@aussie.zone 20 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I have never seen this issues, but see people comment it all the time.

What is the issue? I use it almost exclusively for the majority of my spreadsheet work and I rarely have an issue or are required to adjust.

I haven't had any real issues with opening xlsx files either.

I came here to say this

In regards to email hosting.

It is not about hosting the server on your own infrastructure, it is about having there code to host it out have another provider.

There are a lot of email providers!

Also, if you look at the way Lemmy works, it is the same as emails. If they federate a community, the data is kept on both the original server and the federated one, so you duplicate to m the data, similar to an email server.

It is an interesting concept, and maybe the score should just reduce down to brush categories, like fully decentralized, potential decentralized, neither, partially centralized, fully centralized.

Then we won't nitpick on the school l score too much?

I'm doing my part for Vanuatu.... Not sure if anyone will use it here, but I'm having fun!

[–] palitu@aussie.zone 1 points 4 months ago

I expect that it is not voluntary

[–] palitu@aussie.zone 1 points 5 months ago

That is why it is

Yeah, has been a fun watch, especially since I am a force fan. We tend to lose the close ones, so it has been refreshing to see them take it to the final minutes and close out (or win) games at the death.

We didn't get very many rebels, and none of the wallabies/top tier ones. Mostly we looked internationally to find Aussies that wanted to crack the wallabies

My mother in-law and I are interested in getting solar with Batteries, but i am really not sure of the options are at the moment, at least from a cost and rebates perspective.

What are the current costs for your installs or quotes you have received?

Feel free to should out any good suppliers/installers you have worked with

Thanks!

I have to look for a christmas present for a nephew, and one of the thoughts was a poster of basketball players. Anyone know where there are places to buy them now?

I know there was a place at the royal show, but i am damned if i know where to go now.

There are online places, but shipping is about the same as the poster itself!

would love some options,

thanks!

Hi all,

I am looking for suggestions for a new laptop to run KDE on, but I want it to be amazing out of the box.

I have run kubuntu and neon on HP and dell laptops previously, and they are fairly good, but things like the GPU not being auto set up, or hibernate type features not working have made it a bit of a pain.

I think my main bugbear is the power management. My wife's macbook air can have the lid closed and it will wake up again a week later just fine. My laptop barely makes it overnight and get hot in the bag.

What are some good laptops to run KDE, where they have been fully integrated and have great power management?

The main ones I know of are slimbook and framework, but would love to hear some experiences if you have them.

Thanks!

This is a bit of an odd one,

I have just moved to another country where internet is very expensive, and i would like to have an app to create a shared list of Wifi creds where i find them, whether that is offices, hotels or cafes, etc.

It would kind of be like the OpenWifi Map, but maybe a bit more private?

Does anyone know of anything like this? it would be able to tell where you are and alert you or autoconnet to the wifi using the credentials that are stored.

The reason i want it to be shared is that my wife can use the ones that i find and vice-versa.

cheers

Super rugby kicks off tonight. How many teams will still be solvent by the end of the season?

Hey y'all!

I am after the colelctive expertise of this fantastic community. My family and i are moving overseas for a year for a pacific adventure, which leaves my hosting setup in a bind. We will be renting out our house and i will need to move all of my 'servers' (read laptop and NAS) out.

All of my services are in docker.

My main services that i MUST keep are:

  • Immich
    • 600Gb or so
    • very important as we will be taking a HEAP of photos.
  • paperless
  • vaultwarden
  • custom location tracking service
  • radicale

I would also like to make it so that all of my media is still available, but i may need to get a set up at a friends house. I have jellyfin plus a bunch of *arr's

I was thinking a mix between at a mates house and a cloud server.

any thoughts?

edit: a lot of my services are exposed publicly, via Nginx proxy manager.

oh dear. i thought it was a belt, not the addition of a mid rift top...

why would that happen anyway? seems stupid to me. why ~~mid rift~~ midriff!?!

edit: turns out i was a bit too literal... it is a rift in the middle of her clothes...
