Now, what one considers free is political. You cannot decouple reality from politics, and the free software movement is just one very specific example how political this really is. It's also these communities that generate politival movements that you may see as unrelated to the pieces of software in question.
Outside the US this no longer has to be political, is probably more what it really is.
Personal is political.

Firefox on Debian at home, mostly Chrome on Windows at work (sometimes Edge too) and Chrome on Android on my work phone due to practical reasons.
I use Debian and have used Arch previously. I don't have very good experiences with BTRFS from the past and bleeding-edge may or may not be a bit buggy as an experience. Maybe I will give it a try one day.
I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. Linux foundation backing it along with HW manufacturers definitely seems positive.
I'd say find a cheap Intel/AMD 64 bit used PC, but those can be noisy and draw lots of power compared to SBCs. You don't need anything fancy. The <40€ ThinkCentres and such will do, especially if you throw some SSD in.
I'd say let that ship sink. We've got alternatives. Even if we miss the communities and knowledge etc.
That's what "being political" means. Otherwise you'd be apathetic, cynical and not concerned about anything.
