Thanks, I'll see if I can pass on those suggestions once I track down whoever is currently in charge of the project. It looks like it may have been handed over to a new team recently

I'll unpin my comment and dismiss the report :)

That makes sense to me. Maybe we can encourage people to post them as text posts, with the link in the body and a title that makes it seem more like a discussion starting post?

At the same time, it's not too difficult to check on the posts on a case by case basis at our current size, and by the time that's no longer possible we would have the momentum to support other communities. So it's not a big deal

Thanks! !askmen@lemmy.ca and !askwomen@lemmy.ca have been closed and redirected

Thanks! I ended up including this sentence:

If you can't access one of the communities listed below, it may not be available on your instance. You can always check out this guide on how to find communities.

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

I'm removing this post since it isn't really relevant for this community. In the future, you can ask about communities in !communitypromo@lemmy.ca, !lemmy411@lemmy.ca, !newcommunities@lemmy.world, etc

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Were there any updates on this? Did anyone end up forking it?

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (3 children)

That is totally fair :)

You also mentioned that certain features aren't available on old.lemmy.ca. What features were those? I'll see if I can find anything about it

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (5 children)

It would be up to Lemmy developers to implement flairs, and then the Mlmym developers to make them visible on the interface that is displayed when you go to old.lemmy.ca. If we (Fedecan) were to try and implement something just for ourselves, it wouldn't be that helpful since only our users would be able to see and set the flairs.

It looks like post flairs are on the way though! I see this merge from last week for "finish adding post tags"

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/5869

Referenced in this issue

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/317

User flairs will likely come later, but it's planned from what I can tell. The issue was kept open:

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/1456

Having the flairs be displayed in the old interface may take some time, since that project seems to see slower development. If someone has experience in the 'Go' programming language, they can help implement it to speed things up

I'll add it to the list, I'm not sure if I should also add a note about federation or if that will just be more confusing for new users

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Thanks! I've added it to the draft

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Thanks, I've added them all

If you want an example of a call for mods, here's one I posted from a while back: https://lemmy.ca/post/31769390

I love the photos you chose for each community. Looking forward to seeing them grow!

Hi, we're discussing this one with the other admins and someone will get back to you soon. I've reapproved the comments in the meantime.

Injectable prescription drugs, sold as Ozempic and Wegovy, and the pill Rybelsus all contain the ingredient semaglutide. This class of medication, known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1s), regulate blood sugar levels and appetite.

Health Canada previously approved Ozempic to treat diabetes and Wegovy for weight loss. Nearly 33 per cent of Canadians (10.6 million people) were obese in 2023, according to a recent study.

Novo Nordisk, maker of Ozempic and Wegovy, will effectively lose its price protection on those drugs in Canada in January, opening the door to generic versions.

Mina Tadrous, an associate professor who evaluates pharmaceutical prices at the University of Toronto, says three or four companies have them in development or are starting the paperwork.

Tadrous says the number of companies affects pricing.

"The classic framework is that if you only have one, it comes down from the list price to 75 per cent," Tadrous said. "If we have two, it goes down to 50 per cent and if we have three it hits 25 per cent."

Three manufacturers could bring the price down to $100 from $400 for the same strength of semaglutide product, Tadrous estimates.

The modmail has been copied below. The announcement is linked in the first comment, and people are justifiably annoyed.

Hi Mods,

We are in the process of rolling out a big overhaul to Subreddit Wikis, including a new layout, tools, discoverability, and more.

TL;DR - We’ve given wikis a makeover. The improved wiki (launching next week) includes: new tools and layout, additional safety features, more edit access options, and improved discoverability. For those with wikis built on old.reddit, we’ll move your existing content over, so that everything is preserved. Edits made via old.reddit after the migration won’t sync to the new system and vice versa.

Keeping a wiki fresh and up to date can be time-consuming, and mods shouldn’t have to do it all alone. As part of this update, “successful contributor access” will be enabled by default for your community wiki the week of July 14.

The entire wiki or individual pages can be restricted to “mod-only” editing at any time (after the above changes are made) within “Wiki settings” found in Mod Tools on desktop.

This setting manages for quality and safety while enabling more Wiki maintenance support and relevant content creation. In early testing, subreddits with this setting enabled did not require mod revisions.

To opt out of this setting being turned on in your community before July 14, please let us know via this form.

This article is divided into two chapters.

  • The first one, starting with section “Introduction to naming in programming” presents a review of scientific literature present on the topic. That section will deepen your understanding of the current body of knowledge on naming things.
  • The second chapter, starting with section “Guidelines for naming conventions in programming” presents actionable recommendations to improve your skills in choosing thoughtful class, function or variable names. If you’re looking for tips, go there.

There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things.
