barring a complete redesign of intellectual property law from its very foundation.
lets just hope theres no media empire with a legion of mouse-eared lawyers champing at the bit to do such a thing.
similarly i'd be a bit worried that any new legislation would be more strongly influenced by those rights-holding interest groups rather than consumers.
Imagine someone in 50 years who wants a rom from the 80s. will they be able to get it easily?
It'd be nice if it was as easy as getting hold of a brothers grimm story.
if you don't like s01 e02 future echoes you might as well give up on it.
thats one of the best episodes.
the rest is basically just more of the same the same idiot characters, in slightly different scifi situations.
same.
back on dos i used xtreegold for everything.
but since moving to linux, it's never occurred to me to use one.
this thread has got me wondering but not sure i can see the need.
tab completion also makes handling directory structure easy enough.
isn't activitypub stuff basically open?
so you could create or comission your own platform/ interface that can synthesize posts from all sorts of places and could even do things about duplicates?
thats the benefir of the open source data model and apis - someone can probabledevlop the features you want - eventually.
the current platforms probably all look a bit like pre existing forums / aggregators or social media . butthats just a starting pont, the future could be much weirder ways of compiling displaying and creating posts. and in theory it can all interoprate (within reason, and outwith federation blocks)
i probably have no idea what i'm talking about though . . . i've certainly not even queried a single activitypub api personally
bash noob
can each kbin/lemmy/etc. also query the upvotes/boosts/likes from all instances and combine them to create ranking(s) of posts that represent the interactions from the whole user base?
people who like content sorted by "top" or "hot" or upvotes or boosts and so on also need a large diverse number of people viewing and clicking to create a meanigful / representative ranking of content.
probably an "S-curve" type relationship
rip, tie cut toy man.
i dont think i've read greg egan stories for over 20 years . . . might be worth a review.
i always preferred the short stories though, theres was few good anthologies. axiomatic and luminous spring to mind.
maybe there are some newer ones since then.
