One of the most exciting things about CoMaps is the amazing community behind it. Today, we want to shine a spotlight on some of the incredible people who are already contributing to the project.

· gedankenstuecke – helps with the website, German matrix/telegram room operator and planning for decision-making structure.

· Flummic – Designed the CoMaps logo and worked with the community to iterate branding with creativity.

· metehan – Runs Weblate, the translation system, and the operator of the Turkish chat.

· AlexeyNaumenko – a recruiter and tech enthusiast who believes in the power of open-source - published an article about CoMaps.

Their dedication and expertise are what makes CoMaps possible. We're always looking for more people to join us. If you're interested, get involved!

Features include: a link to Panoramax street photos (where photos available), improved contour lines, color improvements for many map features, and many more.

Today the routing algorythm is quite basic and does not contain penalties for road features like traffic lights, stop signs or turns, that is why the travel time estimates is always unrealistically low, and this can create routes which may not be the most optimal. A contributor is starting work to add penalties:

If you would like to help out, would be great to have you!

As CoMaps doesn't track peoples’ data, we can't say for sure, however we believe that CoMaps has now exceeded 100k downloads!

A huge THANK YOU to all the incredible people who’ve provided support along the way! Whether you downloaded from Google Play, the App Store, F-Droid, or APK, your engagement and energy have been key to making this journey so special. We’re just getting started, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Looking forward to even more discoveries, connections, and collaborations!

Thousands of local contributors around the world help keep it accurate, up-to-date, and truly community-driven. A mountain trail, a new road, or a hidden café - chances are it was added by someone who knows the area best.

CoMaps builds on this rich, open data to bring you offline navigation— maps that work anywhere.

Thank you to everyone contributing to OpenStreetMap — you make CoMaps possible!

Most constitutors are now with CoMaps.

This is a great idea! Would you be able to create an issue here: https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues

This could improve search for many points of interests.

There is quite a bit of work to be done with search to improve it. Right now data is not pulled from Wikidata, so this additional source would need to be added.

If there is anyone who is familiar with developing search and/or C++ and interested in contributing to CoMaps, this would be a great project!

Right now there is no traffic data, but there is work ongoing to add offline traffic data. Since traffic is mostly cyclical, it’s quite predictable, so historical offline data can show traffic.

[–] oleg_rswll@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

No, there is no app traffic info.

[–] oleg_rswll@sopuli.xyz 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

No, since CoMaps does not track data, we don’t have map info. This is from App Store and Google Play Store, they offer basic stats.

CoMaps is a community, shaped by people who believe maps can be better: more private, more accessible, and more accurate.

People downloaded CoMaps in 118 countries – from mountains to coastlines, from rural backroads to bustling cities, people around the world are using CoMaps to navigate offline.

While portraying Organic Maps as a community-driven project, shareholders were making decisions behind closed doors - a Kayak ad affiliate link was added, parts of the open-source code was hidden, and shareholders are leaving the door open for selling the company and pocketing profit from contributor work (this would likely go the unfortunate route of Maps.Me).

There is no graphic designer at CoMaps, anyone was welcome to submit a design, including designers, and a few of the logos in the first round were by designers.

We're proud to reveal the logo for CoMaps — designed and chosen by the community.

From maps to code to design, CoMaps is 100% community-powered — and this logo is no different. It’s a symbol of what we’re building together: free, open, and offline map navigation for everyone.

The winning logo was created by @Flummic. The initial round had 21 logos submitted, resulting in 6 finalists, followed by an iteration process where people collaborated to make improvements (https://codeberg.org/comaps/Governance/issues/78).

Thank you to everyone who shaped this milestone. We’re just getting started.

After dozens of ideas and tons of iteration in the community, we’re down to the final 6 logo designs — and your vote will help decide which one becomes the official face of CoMaps.

This isn’t just a design — it’s a symbol of open maps, privacy-respecting navigation, and a global community.

– Voting closes: July 11

Let’s build this together!
