It can be useful as a word seperator. If its a copy, instance admins can remove it if necessary. Also, it seems inconsistent to allow _ in community names, but not in usernames (if thats what you're suggesting).

I would like to add that wolfballs.com will still be included in the instance list on join-lemmy.org. Thats partly because it makes moderation of this instance easier if users can join an instance thats more appropriate for them. Plus the admin is making good contributions to Lemmy and promoting it. Also, Lemmy cant be a real alternative to Reddit if we exclude such a large part of the userbase.

Maybe in the future we can implement more fine-grained federation controls, so that we could federate only certain, non-political communities with wolfballs. For now, every instance admin can decide whether to federate with it or not, and users consider that as a factor when choosing an instance.

I thought the main purpose of NFTs is money laundering.

Trump is not a very charming person, but I really prefer him over a slick war criminal like Obama.

And I fully agree about the license, thats why I added the disclaimer. Luckily it should be pretty easy to relaunch the site and publish the code.

This seems to be a very unpopular opinion here, but I think its good if Trump opens a Mastodon instance (assuming that it follows the license). Having different instances for different political views is one of the main features of the fediverse for me. And anyone who doesnt like an instance can simply block and ignore it. If that instance works, it would show to many people that an alternative to corporate social media is actually possible.

Maybe what you want is a rule that at least two countries need to be involved so that it can be posted here? That should get rid of all the domestic "politics" theater from Usia.

I tried to read that but it was way too drawn out. I think I made it to page 200 or so and he didnt even leave his village yet. And it has 1000 pages. That was years ago so numbers might be wrong.

Lemmy is open source, meaning that anyone can use it for whatever purpose they like. Realistically there is nothing we can do against that. The sooner we accept this reality, the better.

In my opinion, the main goal of Lemmy as a project is to challenge proprietary social media like Reddit. That wont be achievable if we try to exclude anyone from using Lemmy. Of course that doesnt mean that we have to agree with their opinions, and block tools exist exactly for this reason.

Also, I think if these extremists leave Reddit, that could eventually lead to their deradicalization. Reddit has no real incentive to deradicalize them, because more users and more activity means more ad money for them. But fediverse instances are usually run by volunteers in their free time, who have less incentive to permit such toxicity.

Very well said. Also, if these people disagree with the rules on lemmy.ml, they could create their own instance, with their own rules. Thats the whole point of federation.

Sorry I didnt notice before that he edited the comment, and unfortunately we dont have any edit history stored in Lemmy. Anyway, when you see a rule violation (eg racism), then you should report it to the admins/mods and have them take care of it. Attacking another user is also a rule violation (rule 2), and is just gonna lead to more trouble.

Edit: also I suggest that both of you stop arguing, because it is not going anywhere. Just accept that you disagree, and ignore each other. @Helix@feddit.de @TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml

Dont accuse other users of racism for no reason. No one even talked about Indians before you. This is a warning.

Instance blocking and user blocking are features, not problems. Most users want to block trolls for example. If you dont like that, you can make your own instance without, or just go back to commercial social media. The rest of your rant seems exclusively to Matrix, not Lemmy. I think you should spend more time here (or on another instance) before you really judge it.
