Nebula exists. Curiosity Stream exists. PeerTube exists. Odysee exits. The people I value on YT already have footholds on all four. More will arrive soon enough.

Exactly my thoughts too.

I fully made the switch 6 years ago, and that was after using Traktor for 10 years, and various other software from 2005 to 2010. I think I've used Serato Scratch Live, M-Audio Torq, Virtual DJ, Serato Itch, and etc.

Part of me leaving Traktor was me being fed up with Microsoft (as they were becoming Microslop). I saw the trend with what Windows was doing, and Windows 11 broke the 'camel's back' for me: ads, TPM requirements, forced updates, surveillance, and etc.

Traktor was also pushing me to leave their software too: dumb release of MK3 controller series (except S4), subscription model for Traktor Plus, now they're in financial solvency, and so on.

So, I jumped onto Linux, and started using Mixxx around v2.2.4. I've known of Mixxx since the early 2010s. I just never had a reason to leave until 2020, but it was probably the best decision I made. Using Open Source software has helped expanded my DJing, especially in the file organizing part of music files.

Bottom line: If you depend on a software company to DJ or do anything with art, be prepared for when that company takes a dive and quits being a company. I didn't want that dependency, so I jumped to open source.

when freestyle mixing with random song this helps save you so much times

It does, right? I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way.

But I think I'll move forward with selling the unit. It's definitely a fun one, but I'm not a fan of the FX lay out when compared to Traktor's units.

Plus, I have touch screen laptops, so that could suffice for now. I just hate how laptop screens bounce when you touch them, haha!

I've been using Traktor gear since 2010. It's not the only gear I use, but it's the majority of equipment I have. The only time I've ever used search bar touch strips was on CDJ 2000s and up. I don't have a pair of CDJ 2000s, but when I DJed at other peoples' events, I'd notably use them to quickly preview tracks while mixing. This would help me know if the next song I want to play was the right song, or had the right energy.

About a week ago, I picked up a Numark Mixtrack Pro 3. I didn't need it, but the seller sold it super cheap, and I figured I could "flip it" and sell it off (seller said they had issues; I fixed said issues).

I decided to play around with the controller, get the idea or the feel for the unit. I'll be honest: I was impressed. The build quality was much better than I imagined, the lights were something I appreciated, and out of all features that were lacking in my Traktor gear, touch strips to skim through tracks were very useful for me.

Just like on CDJs when I was previewing incoming tracks in my mix, I'd use the touch strips to jump around in the songs, and it saved me quite a lot of time. In Traktor, they have "beatjump", which is a nifty tool, but it is a lot of "twisting" the knob, even when you set the beatjump to a higher rate (16, 32, and etc.). The fact that a touch strip can jump through a track in one push, saved me from constantly twisting knobs.

I'm not sure if this justifies me holding onto the controller. I could possibly sell it still. But I was just surprised that touch strips would have had an impact in DJing live events, to the point that it makes me question which I preferred to use.

To be honest, ever since the 2.5.2 or 2.5.3 release, I feel like they made some good major updates.

My favorite one: complete overhaul and rewrite for the timecode support.

The previous timecode system was pretty bad... Like, beatmatching and accuracy were pretty bad, but also, it sent a very weak audio signal and made my audio output sound pretty bad.

2.5.6 is the last release before 2.6

Majority of my devices are at least Ryzen 2xxx, that includes desktops and laptops. Ever since the release of Vega, I was blown away at their APU graphics. It definitely surpasses iGPU.

I know dGPU could be better, but I preferred the (resale value) of Ryzen devices.

However, I still use Intel 4th ~ 6th Gen laptops that I pick up for free, or had from 10+ years ago. Great for indie gaming still.

I generally hold onto devices because they work perfectly fine with a SSD. Even though they're not "blazing fast" or cutting edge.

Everything runs on NixOS.

So, you'd create a PeerTube channel, but probably minimal visuals, yeah?

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/41525497

I'm looking to start a PeerTube channel, incorporating some DJ livestreaming and other content, but I've noticed that folks haven't been consistent on their posting.

Some folks have posted live streams from 7~5 years ago, but I don't see anything that's consistently monthly or regular. Why is that?

Also, do copyright music infringements apply if I were to play a mix that has that type of content?

Folks that already DJ on the fediverse, via PeerTube or otherwise, what are your commendations and thoughts?

I was just curious, and I have some interest in it.
