I live in Europe and have one friend who does that. No idea where it stems from, maybe the parents felt they could keep more of a personal identity if they were referred to by their name at home or something

Ob alleinerziehend oder nicht, relevant ist das gesamte einkommen der Eltern. Wenn du Geschwister hast wird das Einkommen auch noch auf alle Kinder aufgeteilt (außer sie arbeiten schon). Insgesamt verstehe ich nicht, wie es rechnerisch sein kann, dass deine Freundin in der Situation, wie du sie schilderst, mehr BAföG kriegen konnte als du.
