Little Brother is amazing. Its a novel that takes place in California after a terrorist attack and Homeland Security uses the attack as an excuse to go full fascist and start tracking and arresting people on terrorism charges with no trial.

It includes mention and use of a ton of real technologies (tor, torrents, linux, pgp key signing parties, etc) and the main characters are teens that use a jailbroken gaming console to create a p2p network/community of hackers to fight back against fascism. It shows how communities can organize and share files and information, how communities can be infiltrated, how people can avoid surveillance using technology and even simple things like placing a pebble in your shoe to avoid gait recognition (which the cameras in their schools use to track each student).

I highly recommend it! Homeland is the sequel and it looks like theres a new book as part of the story. I haven’t read any of the other books other than parts of Walkaway which I want to finish when I have time. Walkaway is a story about people who essentially leave society to build an open source society/commune

Not even the CIA believes it was the fault of Cuba “In January 2022, the Central Intelligence Agency issued an interim assessment concluding that the syndrome is not the result of "a sustained global campaign by a hostile power". Foreign involvement was ruled out in 976 cases of the 1,000 reviewed”

Also the embargo started way before 2016 so what weird point you have there to try and justify the richest government in the world punishing one of the poorest countries while it also bombs countless other countries.

How does it hurt Cuba’s economy that people can’t do business with them? How does it hurt Cuba’s economy that the most powerful country with the most influence over the world doesn’t let people do business with Cuba? How does it hurt their economy that its a pain in the ass to travel there? You must be joking

Currently if you archive a Lemmy thread you can see all the posts and comments but all replies to all comments are hidden in a “X# more replies ->” which if clicked it tries opening it forever and the replies never load.

Edit: updated title and body so its more clear im asking about how lemmy can be updated so its easier for the wayback machine to also archive the replies to comments

Example: https://web.archive.org/web/20230801065606/https://lemmy.world/post/2398000

most people i know use google by searching whatever question they have and including the word “reddit” at the end to find reddit threads since it currently has the most useful information.

As Lemmy gets more and more filled with useful threads and reviews it would be great if we can collectively improve Lemmy’s SEO so just including the word lemmy in a search will show lemmy threads related to the search.

The obscure tlds used in lemmy servers don’t help and lemmy.com currently redirects to lemm.ee. Is there a way we can improve the SEO of all instances or have lemmy.com be a aggregator of threads from many Lemmy servers?

Developing an app is not easy or fast. Its time consuming and requires you pour a lot of your own time and money. We love your app and want to ensure it remains sustainable for you to continue development. Please make it as easy as possible for all of us to donate monthly by using the platforms a lot of us use. These being github sponsors, patreon, open collective, and liberapay.

For reference this is the voyager (formerly wefwef) developers github sponsors which is also a great project the community is starting to help fund https://github.com/sponsors/aeharding

And some servers have open collectives to pay their server bills which is also great https://opencollective.com/beehaw

The DRM removal tool to remove DRM from ebooks was taken down from github and will most likely be taken down from gitlab soon as well. The more archives we have the better so im sharing the gitlab in hopes some Datahoarder types will archive it and keep it shared via torrents etc https://gitlab.com/bipinkrish/DeGourou

Heres an article about why it was taken down https://torrentfreak.com/internet-archive-targets-book-drm-removal-tool-with-dmca-takedown-230714/

Edit: does anyone here use https://radicle.xyz/ ? Its a p2p network built on top of git and could be a good way to host it while still being able to contribute to it besides making a .torrent for archiving
