Well when the individual is sidestepping congress to give more bombs to drop on children and then turning around and wishing to be celebrated for building a port for aid to those children he just helped bomb it sorta feels like maybe he shouldn’t be applauded.

Also im sure this port will only be used for aid and never be used as a navy base of any kind and will never house american military and be used as an excuse to cause more bombings in the region or anything of the sort

Oh I thought closing the instance sent a delete request to all instances to delete all user data.

Do you know a way I can backup the database without any of the pictrs data and still be able to resurrect the instance? We didnt really upload images anyways and id rather keep the backup small making it more likely i can resurrect the instance in the future when i get more money and find cheaper hosting

This looks amazing! Any chance in the future itll be possible to also preserve videos? Maybe if i download a webpage and provide the mp4 myself? So i could save a YouTube link and then upload the mp4 of the video i saved using yt-dlp

Friendly reminder to add it to the seedbox :)

I dont want to block full federation i want to block image federation from other servers so when the big ones are attacked with csam my server doesnt download it. If someone uploads an image to a community on my server does it not federate and get downloaded by my server?

“Anyways they would have taken too long to implement” seems like a very odd take considering this is an ongoing issue that is pretty damn important. Some features that should be available is for instances to wipe images from certain dates, “muting” instances to prevent storing any images from instances that are not on an approve list and prevent users outside this list from uploading images to your instance, and an option to prevent any user outside your instance from uploading images to your instance.

Theres many mod tools like these that need priority right now but it seems like they keep getting pushed away

These are some really good points. I’m personally more interested in the development of PieFed than SubLinks due to the focus on making it easy to contribute, the developer cares about usability and mod tools, its in Python, and the developer posts dev blogs and answers questions on mastodon https://join.piefed.social/blog/

That fork will probably be nuked from GitHub soon people better make local copies and a p2p version of the repo if they want it to continue existing

Waterfox is a good fork to move to

Praying this also means the Profile button will merge with the Settings button so the middle button can be a Create Post button so creating user content is much easier especially for new users

Stack Overflow employs it for moderation and quality control.

Ive had almost every question ive ever posted on stack overflow sites locked claiming the question is answered elsewhere even though the question they point to is not the same as mine. Its so frustrating posting on those sites cuz everyone claims i should do what im asking some other convoluted way or that the question is the same as others which are outdated or completely irrelevant.

Multiplex, an app to watch torrents together. It provides an experience similar to Apple's SharePlay and Amazon's Prime Video Watch Party, except for any torrent instead of a specific streaming service. Thanks to WebRTC, it doesn't require a server to sync playback, and can use a gateway if a viewer can't use BitTorrent. It's written in Go for GNOME; check it out on GitHub https://github.com/pojntfx/multiplex

I’ve tried asking on the Mediawiki Support Desk but haven’t gotten any help.

EDIT: It looks like the issue with images comes from using Short URLs. After uploading the image through the Upload File section I get a 404 error but if I add /index.php?title= to the url I can visit the uploaded files. Not sure how to fix this though

So basically my issue is mediawiki thinks the links to my files are /File:filename.png but they're actually at index.php?title=File:filename.png

After the last post publicly by Naomi Wu being

“Ok for those of you that haven't figured it out I got my wings clipped and they weren't gentle about it- so there's not going to be much posting on social media anymore and only on very specific subjects. I can leave but Kaidi can't so we're just going to follow the new rules and that's that. Nothing personal if I don't like and reply like I used to. I'll be focusing on the store and the occasional video. Thanks for understanding, it was fun while it lasted”

Naomi Wu mentions briefly on her silencing and how she is not nearly as safe as she was before now that it’s obvious to the Chinese government her disappearance won’t cause an uproar of bad press making China look bad.

Communities on different instances about the same topic should have the option to essentially federate so a post on one appears on all of them and opening any of them shows you the comments from all of them. This way when lemmy.world is down its not a big deal because posting to any news community federates to all of the communities instead of barely having people see your post. Federation could be decided by the community mods and the comments can have a little “/c/communityname@instance.name” on it so you know which community the comment was originally posted on.

I use Memmy everday as I'm sure many of you do as well and Memmy has been getting extremely frequent updates yet there is still not an easy way to donate monthly to support the development of Memmy. He has a Buy Me a Coffee account setup here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gavink but I've never seen it posted anywhere and its not available in the bottom of the settings section of the app which would make sense and be convenient. So I figured I'd make a post about it in case anyone else has also looked for a way to donate. (I found the link at the bottom of the github https://github.com/Memmy-App/memmy)

hopefully recurring donation options are available soon

It will be open source, end to end encrypted using Signal’s double ratchet encryption protocol, and he plans to make it easy for fediverse platforms to integrate it. The beta will release later this month.

He’s also the creator of https://fedidb.org btw

“For 25 years, Window has been quietly changing the security industry with her pioneering work at Apple, Mozilla, Fastly, and Intel, among others.

“She basically revolutionized security for the entire internet with her work [at Microsoft],” Katie Moussouris says.

For years, people have been telling me about Window Snyder, saying she never got the credit she deserved for her work at Microsoft and Apple.

Today, we finally reveal how important she was in enabling encryption by default on Macs, iPhones, and iMessage.”

Showing related threads that use the same link or have a similar title or words in the body of the post would prevent a lot of duplicate threads while also making it more convenient for users searching for a solutiom to a problem that is already available in a previous lemmy thread.

The lemmy web ui already does this when typing a title (although due to a bug it doesnt do so for the link or when the suggested title from the link is used)

SubMedia makes a lot of Anarchist videos covering news around the world. This is there last video of their System Fail series as they move on to a new series. They also host their videos on their own Peertube server https://kolektiva.media/w/896293b0-3618-41ce-93ae-640627db79fc

I vaguely remember a website or community section of a website that was dedicated to sharing .config files and scripts. I thought it was actually called dotConfig but I can't seem to find it while searching anywhere

I think the main purpose of the website was around theming or “ricing” your linux setup and DE

EDIT: it's http://dotshare.it/ ! they dont have a ssl cert tho https://web.archive.org/web/20230729030641/http://dotshare.it/

Many creators mentioning they lost hundreds of their patrons suddenly and patrons confused as to why their payments are being declined. Patreon is such an old company that hasnt done anything to improve their service for years while the CEO makes youtube videos and seemingly nothing with the company. I hate how much of a monopoly they have in the space, they clearly have no vision for improving their website or app.
