Our support or no support for a US presidential candidate has no bearing on anything whatsoever

I just checked the mod logs and, would you look at that, @Zúñiga is literally a mod on Chapo.Chat. Right when it starts up, the site goes down. We need to purge our mods

Bourgeois electoralism isn’t a sphere any of us win in. Bowman never represented a victory, even in the most modest sense

My partner asked me if I had any podcast recos specific for news since she isn't on Twitter or anything really. She enjoys Rev Left every now and then, but she's looking for something more timely/news-focused and like an ongoing run-through of current events from a (hopefully) Marxist perspective, or however close that can reasonably be.

I'm putting together a list and have Democracy Now and Citations Needed (although CN is lengthier and less "hard-hitting news" type podcast than what she's looking for). But I'm kind of stuck. The Socialist Program with Brian Becker is kind of like too aggressive and focused on imperialism, I don't know anything about Coffee with Comrades, Deconstructed seems lib?, also don't know anything about the Jacobin podcasts like The Dig. Is Behind the News any good?

I feel like Democracy Now is the type of comprehensive news delivery that she's looking for the most, but I know that show can be anti-communist too. Idk, what does everyone think?

*Edit -- Hell yeah thank you all so much! I’m going with Morning Means TV, Give the People What They Want, The Punch Out, Citations Needed, and Democracy Now for a solid wrap of news podcasts

Does anyone have any links handy to a consolidated breakdown of the Ukraine coup? I was arguing with a lib friend on this and he doesn't believe it was a coup at all, or that the US was involved. He thinks the Ukrainian people wanted to join the EU via a referendum and then Putin intervened to stop that. I've read passing tidbits on things like meetings at the US embassy, Yanukovych's sudden turning away from the EU/IMF, etc, but it's all still a little unclear even for me. Would appreciate an article or substack or something on this, and any podcast episodes would be cool too

Anyone know how to get a hold of the Hinge Points episodes in a sharable way for a friend who is not a CTH Patreon? I was specifically looking for the Civil War episode and can only find this broken link - (something like c10.patreonusercontent.com, idk it didn’t paste correctly).

My friend is a lib who is super into history and literally argued with me that history is, indeed, simply a collection of unrelated events. An act of randomness. He’s a smart guy too and not entirely a lib, and I was blown away by that

My wife just got a Twitter handle and was looking for a good way to get news from leftist sources/perspectives, and anything else cool. Any good accounts come to mind? I’m kind of new to Left Twitter too so would love some recs. She isn’t like a full on communist yet but a solid socialist, so to speak, still like building her base of knowledge so would probably be turned off to any hardcore/outright theory accounts. Obvs any anarchist stuff welcome too. But yeah, just looking to give her a solid list to start with. Thanks for the help!

  • News/events orgs, journalists, people with good critical takes, etc
  • Funny people
  • Community outreach/mutual aid (+1 for PNW stuff)
  • Female voices, could be funny, feminist, anything really
  • BIPOC and LGBTQ+ perspectives
  • International news
  • She likes dance, forests, art, movies, etc
  • Anything else!

I’m about 4 months into a new job and I do everything via laptop. It’s a good sized company, about 400 employees I think. I got a request from IT for a meeting to transition from JAMF to Desktop Central, which is affecting everything. I had no idea about JAMF though, it was never mentioned in my onboarding. Trying to look up info on these two brought me to basically “they can see absolutely everything you do.” But it’s not too clear to me the extent involved here. Any IT folks with knowledge about this? Researching into it, fucking every company with remote employees is getting into this. Feels like a massive surveillance transition unrolling in real time and it seems real bad

Edit - are there any ways I can effectively prevent them from doing this? Dummy activity scripts? VPNs?

Double edit — it is indeed a work laptop issued to me

she's gonna fucking kill me.

I had a great chat with a lib friend of mine today who is becoming more open to understanding the connection between imperialism and markets, and he was surprised to learn about the Bolivian coup, especially in the context of lithium deposits. He’s right on the edge of understanding more leftist perspectives, and it would be great to send him like a well written condensed breakdown of what happened in Bolivia. Does anyone have or know of anything like that?
