One of the things that REALLY bothered me about the "DOGE" cuts to FEMA, NOAA and other weather services is that they were the one of the top examples for actual government efficiency. For every $1 spent from your taxes, you were saved $6 (as of 2018, iirc) due to FEMA, and thats just the damage mitigation efforts. For NOAA, the scale is much higher, all combined, I think it added up to (roughly) $100 saved for every $1 you spend, this is in things like research (water purification, agricultural protection being the biggest contributors to that front), storm damage prevention via forecasting, combating climate change, sustainable fishing initiatives, and another big one is storm proofing the electrical grid. I say roughly in my estimate, because the report that lists the savings in plain text has been scrubbed from all government websites thanks to the trump admin's "climate change doesnt exist" policy, and I cant find it on the wayback machine, if someone can find it please let me know (the report was from I want to say 2021, and was hosted on the NOAA website as a pdf, I believe the guardian and some other news sources referenced this in a recent article at something like $70 per $1 spent, that figure only took into account immediate savings and research value, not long term benefits like reef protection and rewilding efforts IIRC, I ALSO CANT FIND THAT FUCKING STUDY EVEN THOUGH ITS FUCKING REFERENCED BY EVERYWHERE!!![outside of a report by the American Meteorological Society that references data from 2006 for some fucking reason!])

I'm way too tired to put in the effort to back this stuff up considering its actively being hidden by the government, but you can find tons of shit that references the stuff im talking about, even if they're now dead links, i might come back when i have energy to provide exact links.

If they actually cared about efficiency they wouldn't be cutting these services.

Edit: I haven't slept in 48 hours, grammar and stuff is likely shit, will revisit once better rested

No actually. I have multiple concerns with "AI" that would continue to be concerns in a completely non-capitalism based system.

It would take several hours to type out some of them, but some that are very simple are: the resources required to have these "AI" systems are extensive and would be better used elsewhere, there are things that should not be copied (especially without consent of the creator) and used in a LLM or any image generator, and these systems only exist because of capitalism, without being able to extract and steal value from others, there is really no use for them

For people with ADHD, some ADHD medication has a calming & focusing effect, that same medication has an energizing and euphoric for some (not all) neurotypical people, while also increasing their focus at the same time.

Wish I could say I'm surprised, but I've had this exact thing happen to me several times. Sometimes they've even had slurs in their profile image or banner too.

That's good to know, thank you!

Reposting my comment another post relating to this situation

I mean this is just them making official how they've been acting for 2 years minimum, as much as google and youtube want to act progressive and inclusive, people still get demonetized for talking about lgbtq or women's issues, unless they are harassing them, in which case the video will stay up no matter how many of youtube's rules it breaks. For example, trans NB game critic Stephanie Sterling had multiple harassment videos against them (they listed pronouns as they/them last I checked, please correct if changed) that are still up right now, several years after upload, despite those videos exclusively attacking them for being trans/non-binary, which breaks youtube's TOS

Companies are not your friend.

The state supreme court in Wisconsin declined to press charges for it despite what he did being objectively being illegal in that state, honestly I doubt we'll see any action against him in any state due to fear of trump or trump supporters attacking anybody who does try to hold him accountable.

Exactly! I'm so tired of troubleshooting windows issues on a machine that HAS to use windows due to its applications not working on anything but windows (yes even using docker) and getting "switch to linux" as an answer. Linux is great, but it's not a panacea, the way linux users online (and especially here on lemmy) act is insanely cult-like and extremely unhelpful.

It was indeed people posting that they were following the rule, it started on the 195 subreddit that was the precursor to 196, but IIRC people only started incorporating 'rule' as a joke in longer titles on 196
