I added an edit which is critical of your new assertion

[–] mozz@mbin.grits.dev 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

Paying out higher (better) odds means you think they’re less likely to win

Edit: They were initially confused about how betting odds work, now they’re confused about how outcomes work.

William Hill is saying that Trump has a 65% chance to win, and the Democrat has roughly a 35% chance to win, and that Democrat is much more likely to be Kamala than Biden. There is absolutely no conditional involved in this odds presentation that would imply who has a better chance of beating Trump, as separated from the question of how likely the Democrats are to replace Biden.

If only the well wasn’t poisoned with REPLACE BIDEN NOW OR WORLD WILL END ALSO KAMALA SUCKS bullshit, 5-10 times every hour, some of it coming yesterday still with fresh Cyrillic in its video description, we could have an adult conversation about what a good Democratic strategy would be, so that the end of the world doesn’t get elected

Last comment I will make on the topic:

This is the top thread on my display

This was the first comment I landed on scrolling randomly around

If you don’t accept the equivalence between those things and my all caps statements, then sure.

Best of luck with you on everything

Dude

I have no idea; maybe I made some unfair accusation a while back and you sort of latched onto it and now everything has to be an argument.

(Actually I remember; I think I accused you of something and you said that’s not me and I said oh shit my bad what is the truth then?, and you went into like a monthlong snit about it instead and refused to answer.)

The all caps things, people on Lemmy are definitely saying. If that’s not you, then cool, let’s talk. I’m not sure why you would assert that no one is saying that, but sure.

I am on your side as far as genocide being a bad thing. Probably on some other issues. If you’re convinced that you need to attack me every time you see me, and say that I am lying and love genocide, so as to create a thing you can be pointlessly combative about, I won’t stop you. Have fun with it. I don’t plan to engage with it any further.

Sure! I'd be happy to.

  • Biden took the biggest action on climate change in US history; the goal of the climate bill is to put us on track for a 40% reduction in US emissions by 2030. It’s way too late but that’s clearly not Biden’s fault since he started fighting for it basically as soon as he got into office, and managed to achieve passed legislation which is several standard deviations above the norm for “let’s ignore it until we’re underwater and on fire” US politician status quo.
  • Biden ordered the forgiveness of half a trillion dollars in student debt, about a third of the current total balance, and the Supreme Court told him no. He’s still managed to forgive ~$150 billion worth of it even against stiff Republican “no we need that money to give to Wall Street criminals pls” resistance.
  • Biden introduced a bill to legalize marijuana federally, which the Republicans killed in the senate.
  • Biden achieved the lowest unemployment in 20 years after having been handed an economy that was still digging out from the apocalypse that was 2020.
  • Wages at the bottom end of the economy have actually been growing, outpacing inflation, every single year that he's been president. The top 10% of wage earners actually have lost some ground, it's true -- that probably makes "wages are growing" not feel true to most Lemmy users, because for tech workers, they're shrinking. But the majority of US wage earners have been making more and more year by year. $15/hr is the new unofficial minimum wage in a lot of sectors. That's not enough, but it's sure as shit better than when he came in and unemployment was 6% and a lot of people and businesses were still dependent on Covid-aid stimulus payments.

Oh, and he also raised the minimum wage for federal workers to $15/hr. That doesn't really do anything; the act of congress which is needed to create a national minimum wage got stalled because of Republicans; he was limited to only economic policy things which raised the income level for working class people, not an official cap at the bottom end, which would also be a good idea yes.

Like I say, if that's not what you think, I'd be happy to hear. If not, I'm not sure why you are talking to me.

Dude

What makes you this way

I can go back in my history and find, not that long ago, me saying Biden is old as fuck and it’s a problem, a post from a while ago where I’m comparing the Biden State Dept to Nazis because of their support for the genocide, all kinds of stuff that is perfectly reasonable.

YOU are the one using absurd strawmen here, because I’m not saying exactly what you want to hear.

Why would you even open a conversation if you’re going to react to “please show me what you believe” with hostility and absurd strawmen. Just don’t talk to me.

I must have missed your extensive explanation about how the Democrats are good, or we must not let the fascist win. Want to give me the cliffs notes version? Or just link me to it? I’d be happy to hear.

[–] mozz@mbin.grits.dev 8 points 1 year ago

He was the most popular politician in America for YEARS after that election. He’s still more popular than either Biden or Trump.

I think that, if the DNC’s kneecapping of him had not succeeded, someone might have shot him. They just can’t have that shit. Think of how MANY people with how much power he was sticking the finger directly in the eye of.

Him and his fuckin mittens

I see you have never visited a Lemmy thread

I don’t think it was American CIA agents; I think it was third parties that the CIA was working with.

Not that that makes it much better. He also said that it was fine when the Saudis killed an American reporter, because they give us a bunch of money, or when the Iranians attacked an American military base and put a bunch of US troops in the hospital with serious injuries.
