Just do publicly funded elections, including things like publicly funded frequent small debates where the candidates had to appear as reasonably competent adults who could defend their ideas, and resurrect some of the regulations like the fairness doctrine and caps on media consolidation

The dogshit quality of the current election coverage is mostly a problem because it is the only type of coverage that is available. I think if there was a widely available and well funded type of election coverage that wasn’t this cash grab horse race ad supported bullshit, the bullshit would have to compete against it and would lose and improve as a result.

Eh, I actually tried that at one point, because the mods got mad at me for copy-pasting a long and detailed list of things with citations that Biden had done, on every one of those arguments whenever someone would ask what Biden has ever done for the average American. I wasn't happy with the results though. I more or less just resigned myself to typing out the whole list in Jesus-Christ-not-this-shit-again short summary list format.

They're trying out new talking points, unrelated to "Is this lady gonna try to end democracy or not," for reasons for people not to support Harris

She was a prosecutor being another. Of course, that's only when talking to the left; when targeting semi-conservatives who are just too sensible to want to support Trump (which is a sizable fraction of the Democrats' base), I suspect they may soon start trying crypto-bigoted arguments like about her laugh or that she's unstable and crazy. You know... you know what I'm saying.

My only issue with replacing Biden is

Not true, I am extremely confident that if I look over your history I can find some instance of some reason why Harris is an unsuitable replacement

the libs will have a stab-in-the-back myth or some other story to tell themselves

No idea what you’re even talking about

“Triangulating our policies to be as dogshit as possible without passing the republicans depresses voter turnout"

I need to make up a little song incorporating half a trillion dollars spent on climate change, massive corporate tax increases, higher wages for working people, and a stronger NLRB backstopping all these union gains from the last few years. I’ve literally typed the list so many times that my brain starts to glaze over and get bored before I can finish typing it.

Honestly, that’s part of why I didn’t want to replace Biden with Harris, is that Biden was inarguably a step forward for people who exist in the non-millionaire world, which our system doesn’t produce all that often, and I was reluctant to let him go.

You know what I’m not seeing?

ANY of these accounts that were so relentless in their criticism of Biden and how he needed to step down because otherwise the Democrats would lose, being simply happy about this.

ALL of the tentative happiness about Harris maybe being a stronger candidate than Biden was, is coming from people who were either neutral or defending Biden before. The people who were giving a firehose of criticism to Biden and demanding that it was MANDATORY for him to step down, for the good of the Democrats and the country, have for the most part fallen silent, and a whole new grouping has arisen to give criticism to Harris and say that as good progressives they could never vote for a cop.

I have to say I was against replacing Biden, but seeing how salty some of the want-to-kill-America crowd is getting about it, I am starting to warm significantly to Harris

Wasn’t aware I was “falling in line.” That’s a very weird and specific characterization.

I’m saying that:

  • I agree she’s not the perfect candidate I would pick, although at the end of the day the whole child rape and ending democracy thing makes it kind of a moot point as far as supporting her in the general election if she is the nominee
  • If someone wants to capitalize on the VERY short possibly nonexistent window of replacing her as the nominee, they had better have their plan picked out and be advocating for it hard without delay. If instead of that someone is just shitting on her for various non-disqualifying reasons, then I am probably going to mock or ignore them, since that behavior is not well aligned with producing any good outcome for progressive goals.

Seems fair?

You gave two that were too old, one you wouldn’t hate, one who might beat Trump, one you liked, and one you thought was “interesting.”

Idk man. I love progressive stuff; more than Harris (or for that matter better than Biden) sounds great. I’m gonna like something that sounds like promoting that outcome. I hate the idea of Trump winning the election. I’m gonna dislike something that seems to promote that outcome, which includes shitting on the extremely-presumptive nominee without some kind of alternate plan to replace her with that is more solid than a long unenthusiastic list of candidates at varying levels of wild unrealisticness who are “interesting”.

(I also predicted this like just recently like days ago - that the instant Biden was replaced with Harris, we were gonna get a big drumbeat of “oh actually Harris isn’t good enough, we need to dump her, not to replace her with anyone in particular, just, you know, the whole PROSECUTOR thing, you know…”)
