It needs a little asterisk next to "almost"

You were supposed to bring balance to the Fediverse, not destroy it
I wish to be able to see one of those "faces of meth" progressions of Peter Navarro realizing more and more that he's really going to jail for a while and it's not something he can bully his way out of
We've been giving ours billions more dollars that we took from the plebs so they'll be nice to us
No they've never been nice to us, why do you ask?
Oh yeah, I definitely think it's cherry-picking an individual metric for the purpose of criticizing the one guy high up in government who seems actually to be trying to reduce the planet-destroying death spiral of "let's consume more every year until it's physically impossible to continue and the planet is set and committed on a self-continuing course of annihilation." And, I think the overall goal of the that cherry-picked criticism is to produce a result in government 10 times worse than whatever reasonable-or-not criticisms you might be able to lob at Biden while he's fighting the inertia of the entire federal government and fossil-fuel-lobbying machine with a really surprising amount of success.
Just, well, trying to get my facts straight at the same time as I'm thinking that.
It is highly likely that there will be a concerted effort to overthrow the government at election time. The right is actively recruiting people to go and get involved with the election process to make sure the results of the election come out the way they want it to; threats of violence against election workers have already led to a bunch of them quitting because they didn't sign up for that.
Honestly, one of the most patriotic things a young able-bodied person could do right now would be to volunteer to become an election worker. From what I saw when I voted just recently, they're not equipped (nor should it be their responsibility) to handle an influx of people who are ready to threaten them with for-real violence if they don't step aside and let the men with guns dictate what the outcome of the election is going to be.
That's without even considering what people inside the government could do to steal the election (as they already have done in the year 2000, when they had a lot less on-the-ground muscle and popularity than they do now).
What's your take on this?
Here's an update on how things have been working out in practice. How would you update that 40% figure, in terms of how things have played out in the time since the law was enacted?
What would be your recommendation to do instead, and what would be your estimate of your recommendation's effect in terms of reduction in US emissions level?
Oooh
I see, yeah, that's accurate. I more or less assumed that fuel extracted would equal with fuel burned but that's not the case.
So yeah while I can give credit for the climate bill and acknowledge that Trump is 10 times worse on this issue and acknowledge that Biden's one of the forces in government trying to yank the emissions in the correct direction and direct the negativity on the climate at the people who are trying to water down even the not-enough stuff that he's trying to do, it's also fair to still be absolutely terrified at what the sum total output of the US government for the last 4 years has been. In particular, those charts of US Energy Administration predictions for what will happen in their perfect scenario look a lot like the end of the world.
They're saying you're clearly on the clock right now
I'm gonna exit this conversation now
It is telling that the Ukrainians are hitting logistical targets inside Russia, and the Russians are hitting apartment buildings in Ukraine.
I can't remember where I read it, but somewhere I saw a study which tried to step back and answer the question "does this tactic of killing innocent civilians to break a country's resolve, actually have that effect" and the answer was in almost all cases an absolutely resounding fuck no. As you would expect, it just motivates them more to fight you and win.
Even taking the going-to-hell aspect out of it, and just focusing on Russia trying to win the war, them bombing civilians is a pure and counterproductive waste of munitions and of their own military's time.
