Wait until global warming comes for us for real

Tens of millions? Those are rookie numbers. And it happened for exactly the same reasons, and the fuckers KNEW what they were doing. They just wanted to get rich, and didn’t care if it literally destroyed the world. And now the piper’s coming.

There are a lot more now; it started out as one

the reduction in turn out by people who are not energized by Biden and aren't afraid of Trump has been a thing this whole time, it's not new.

Do you have numbers for this?

Like voter turnout numbers for Biden vs Trump or vs Democrats in earlier elections? All the numbers I have seen are in the opposite direction, which is understandable, because the voters unlike the media understand how catastrophically high the stakes are.

So… I don’t disagree, and a contested convention (after Biden agreeing to release his delegates saying that he’d love to re-win the nomination but recognizes that the complaints are valid and wants what’s best for the Democrats as a whole) sounds like not a bad strategy.

There’s one pretty chilling thing though: How difficult to do think it would be for a Russian influence operation, or a GOP one working with a few friendly players in local politics / law enforcement in Chicago, to create a giant violent shit show of cops assaulting protestors and creating the exact types of events that will overshadow anything good that comes out of the convention and turn off a whole bunch of left wing people, because they can’t tell the difference between the Chicago cops doing something and the Democratic Party doing that same thing, if it happens at the convention?

I don’t think it would be difficult at all. And that’s before even adding in whatever any boogaloo people who want to show up might do.

I think the DNC could easily be where the fighting in the streets fireworks that continue into November get started for real, and in a way that depresses Democratic voter turnout a lot more than the debate did.

I directly expressed the full breadth of insight, heartfelt perspectives and conclusions about the path forward

You wanna share that path forward with the rest of us?

To me, the issue is much more “what are we gonna do instead” than it is “naw man Biden totally isn’t old / it’s not a problem that he is”

Although I don’t at all agree with its central thesis about the Times, this article goes into a good bit of the history and the behind the scenes. I talked in the comments about what I think is mistaken about the article, but you can still learn a lot about the Times from reading the facts it is basing its incorrect conclusions on.

I glanced carelessly and it sort of looked like janky AI art

When I looked closer I was much happier

They’re not doing this because they’re confident they’re going to win

It’s not intended for productive effect. It’s a way to identify people who aren’t loyal to the orders of the tribe, and get violent with them.

As it does for a lot of other things, “On Tyranny” by Tim Snyder breaks this down very very well. He talks about the power of symbols, Nazi pins and yellow stars and the “Trump” flag and things like that, in the growth of fascist movements, and the important often overlooked role they play in starting to shape the fabric of day-to-day ordinary people’s lives in obedience to the leader, and engaging ordinary people in enforcing it.

The thing with banning masks isn’t about improving society in any way; as you point out, it’s pure nonsense looked at in that light. It’s about identifying the ones who won’t get in line.

The press is stupid

Political people, mostly on the conservative side, figured out long ago that if you just pushed hard a particular framing and narrative, the majority of the American political press would just kind of go with it as opposed to upset the herd by presenting a different framing. Once you’ve set the boulder rolling in one direction, you can just kind of let it go and it’ll follow the same path on its own. And they practiced the technique until they got really good at it.

A fun exercise to see it is to read an article, but flip the party and subject of the article to the opposite side. Like some gaffe that Biden made, say that Trump made it, or vice versa. The tone will seem wildly off kilter in this really unusual way.
