She's absolutely getting something out of it, probably enjoying the feeling of being able to induce a reaction. I think "boosting your ego" has much less to do with it than her own ego.

How about ... All of them?!?

A lot of the strength of Reddit was that it was indexed by the big search engines. Take that away and it stops being a destination for searches for useful information. Everything Reddit has done in the past few years to paywall the API and reduce transparency, is just ensuring it becomes another irrelevant echo chamber of "alternative facts".

Spend time with supportive friends and family, indulge your hobbies and cultivate new interests, make new memories that don't involve that person.

Moment to moment, deal with intrusive thoughts by verbally telling yourself "Stop". Visualize yourself in your "happy place" - maybe that's a breezy beach or a peaceful mountain glade. Smell the forest or ocean spray, feel the breeze on your skin and the sand between your toes, visualize details like a rainbow or unicorns frolicking in the surf, hear the waves or rustling leaves .Give yourself a minute there and then continue with whatever you were doing before the unwanted thoughts.

I know we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover but this guy looks like the kind of pedo grifter the regime is absolutely packed with

No. Watching a playthrough is completely passive vs. playing through, interactive. Doing the actual playing through will light up distinct brain regions that passive consumption doesn't.

It does have a kind of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes vibe now that you mention 🍅🍅🍅

Utility power plants don't "create" energy (because laws of conservation of matter and energy), but the terminology of utility power "production" is not controversial

I've been on Bsky for 8 months but only recently discovered the "Newskies" feed (basically - first posts, newest first). It seems very heavily weighted toward samey thirst-magnet pitches, with distinct smatterings of sketchy asks for money, and right-wing troll ragebait. I get that some amounts of all that are unavoidable on that social media format, but I'm curious if anyone who's followed Newskies for a while can say if there's been a surge in the past, say, month or so?

I loved the quirkiness of r/watertowers, but eff that site anymore so here's where I'm putting my random #watertowers now

The state of ethical cocoa certification seems like kind of a mess, so I'm trying to figure out what else I can mix in my morning soy or whey protein powder hot drink to make it tasty, without having to worry that child slaves were beaten just so I could jumpstart my daily protein uptake without making a face. (Sweetness isn't important either, I've been using plain unsweetened cocoa powder.)

Lately SciAm has been running and re-running an article on social media, focusing on plastic cooking utensils, storage etc. as sources of microplastic accumulation in humans.

I'm not disputing that plastics in food prep do contribute to microplastic bio-accumulation - my question is, are these actually dominant sources?

Comparative numbers haven't risen to the forefront of my web searching.

If say 75% of our microplastic uptake is via water and food that was already contaminated (by landfill seepage and wind-borne urban dust) before it entered our homes, then telling consumers to replace all their plastic spatulas and storageware with wood, glass and metal ... is just Big Plastic shuffling off responsibility onto consumers, just like it did with the lie of plastics recycling.
