In my experience there always someone willing to create everything from homebrew software to software activation. Especially if there's some money to make on it.

The Russian economy is booming. Who cares about a little oil on fire when you got all them rubles to burn for heating houses in winter?

The people of Bucha got a taste of the "Russian spiritual and moral values" and we will not forget!

Russian workers are not needed since the Russian economy is booming!

Putin and his faithful tankies told us so a couple of months ago, so this is just fake media!

The hardware has full functionality from day one. The limitation is in what software you are using.

Active suspension is not a hardware feature, it's software collecting data from sensors and by analysing the data being able adjusting the suspension to "optimal performance". Just because certain hardware can be controlled by software doesn't mean that you will get whatever software features you like to have.

BMW would claim that "BMW Smooth Comfortable Cloud Ride Software" is included free of charge with the purchase of a BMW.

BMW would also claim that they offer "BMW Hyper Advanced AI Premium Sensation Masculine Active Road Experience Pro Suspension" as an optional subscription for alpha males and people with too much money in their pockets.

The outcome of what you are suggesting will be a slight change in the phrasing of the product offering at the most.

With access to the keys, the owner can subscribe to the BMW solution, unlock the features in breach of the agreement with BMW by not subscribing or get a software solution for the car from another provider.

While a honorable move, "never" doesn't exist in a world based on quarterly financials...

So you purchase ordinary suspension but get active suspension that works exactly like ordinary suspension and cost like active suspension to service....

It's time we get legislation that gives the consumer access to all encryption key pairs used in the product they purchased.

(For you who don't know what encryption key pairs are used for: they are used for the software to know that a change order, like "activate suspension", is legit and therefore will be executed.)

In its email, Google states that it is closing down the program because of the "overall increase in the Android OS security posture and feature hardening efforts." This has led to researchers submitting fewer vulnerabilities than before.

  1. Vulnerabilities are found, which shows that the program is successful and needed.
  2. No vulnerabilities are found, no money will have to leave Google.

Keeping the program will reap the benefits from both no. 1 and no.2 while closing down the program only enables no.2.

Not hard to see the priorities here....

Off topic but need to know .. Anyone have experience with Android on RPi5? I have 2 RPi4 at home and my Philips tv with Androidtv from 2018 has gone inte sluggish mode after the last couple of updates so I would like to move to an external box to get access to streaming apps and Jellyfin.

I just haven't been able to find a good Android/androidtv for RPi4 that is smooth.

Would RPi5 be better?

Ukraine doesn't have to threaten Russia as a whole.

Ukraine can already reach quite deep into Russia. As Ukraine advances deeper into Russia, the deeper can they strike.

It's not just cannon fodder that Putin has to redistribute. For example, hw much air defence do you think Ukraine will find the further they advance from the frontline in the contested areas?

Russia has to move air defence closer to important infrastructure in places they didn't have to protect before. That air defence has to be taken from somewhere. My bets are not on Russia having a shitload of air defence units elsewhere that they can afford moving away from wherever they currently are.

Every unit of Russian air defence moved from Ukraine back home to Russia is making Ukraine closer to attack the Russian supply lines of the front lines. That's just one of all the things Putin is facing right now because of Ukraine advancing into Russia.

You're right, Ukraine doesn't have the luxury of time and men but they are surely hurting Russia badly with what they have. Even if the risk of Ukraine losing more than just the contested areas is big, they do not sell themselves cheaply.

Russia will pay for years and years for the "3-4 days to Kiev".

Putin will always be in the history books as the only one that has united so many European countries...
