I agree, they print "must have" chase cards that you kind of need now because the competitiveness has increased so much. I loved the idea of jamming your 100 cards together and playing it out. Now it's turned into a constructed min/max format where you kind of start with these X cards that every deck sort of needs.

I think your question would make a really good post of it's own, but my best suggestion would be to write down the mana curve you want first and build your deck to fit cards into that curve. Say you want 10 1cc spells, 20 2cc spells, 25 3cc spells, and 10 4+cc spells with 35 lands. There are so many possible cards you can include in your commander deck that I think it's better to choose them based on a structured mana curve you want. That way your deck won't fall apart while you play it, and you have a clear system for how to swap/upgrade/replace cards in your deck.

I love this!! The Bant Enchantress Mill deck looks fun. I might see how that one goes. More jank please!

I would like the second Jumpstart. I think it's a fantastic way to bring in new players and it's fun for existing players too. It's one of my favorite formats on arena and I think newer players can identify with the tribal themes easily to get into the game.

Is this how hydro homies started?

This is awesome, I was looking for a QR code somewhere but this is the first i’ve seen of an NFC tag. Really cool.

My all-time favorite has to be Skeletons. I think it's really fun to play a theme where the creatures never die, just keep coming back over and over and over.

[[Gutterbones]], [[Sanitarium Skeleton]], and [[Reassembling Skeleton]] are my favorites. You can add other great sacrifice effect cards like [[Bone Splinters]] or [[Village Rites]] and [[Altar's Reap]].

Yea, I really really like the mountains but I have nothing i can think of to do with them. They would sit in a binder somewhere, but even then there are 10 of them and I can't fit them on one sheet.

This is from 2020 but probably still holds now:

That image shows the stats, but it's:

  • Limited
    • Play: 51%
    • Draw: 49%
  • Constructed (Standard)
    • Play: 56.5%
    • Draw: 43.5%
  • Brawl
    • Play: 56.1%
    • Draw: 43.9%

Pretty surprising how much more of an edge it gives you in constructed vs. limited.

I like this a lot. Very on point with the lore too.

[[Ratadrabik of Urborg]]

But more than that, I realized that I actually dislike any mechanics that make you keep track of something that isn’t represented by a permanent and can’t be directly interacted with. The Monarch, the Initiative, the City’s Blessing, the day/night cycle, etc.

I definitely agree with this. I think the game gets really a lot more complicated in a bad way when you introduce any of these things.
