Cardbot might be having some trouble, but to get it to run it needs two of the brackets: [[Loxodon Eavesdropper]]
Alayna Danner has been one of my favorites for the last few years. I love her artwork.
In the older game, DiTerlizzi was my all-time favorite, with Verdant Force being one of the cards that made me fall in love with the game. John Avon, Quinton Hoover, Andi Rusu, Kaja & Phil Foglio, and Jesper Mryfors were some that really typified "Magic" to me.
Dual lands with a land subtype that has never been on dual lands before
Intriguing....

This is obviously anecdotal, but I've talked to the owner of the LGS near me a lot, and specifically about Standard events. This is the latest they had to say about it:
I'm not a fan of standard myself and neither are most of my patrons in the area, so I avoid running any regular standard events on principle, with the exception of the store championships because they give out some cool promos for that and it's the only available format for it.
There isn't much interest in my area, and my reason for contacting them was to try and see if Standard was interesting and approachable enough for me to try and get into. My takeaways so far from looking into it:
- It's expensive to buy into, so you better love the deck you choose to play. There are many different archetypes for sure, but each one is filled with different rares/mythics that you will need to buy to play competitively.
- There's no reason to play competitively local with the low reps vs. competitively online. My only reason for playing in store would be to play Standard casually but why would I do that given #1 above.
Below is a screenshot of MTG Goldfish's top 10 standard meta decks in the last 90 days. I averaged the cost to be $351, which is high enough to limit playing multiple decks. Mono red at $100 was the easiest buy in, but you have to love that play pattern to keep into it.
I agree, I think it's way too premature to call this a success. I would much prefer to go back to 2-year cycles and limit the number of sets in Standard. They are touting the increased card pool as a positive, but I think it just opens up more rares/mythics into the pool to choose from which equates to loading up decks with more rares and mythics. I would love to see them experiment with limiting the number of rares and mythics decks can have in Standard.
Yes I would probably wait for MH3, but one thing I did to build up my Historic and Timeless collection was to buy packs from sets containing the lands that are staples in the formats. You could buy packs from KTK to have a higher chance at opening a fetchland for instance, which decreases the number of wildcards you would need.
The problem with buying packs from older sets is that they don't contribute towards the "gold pack". When you buy 10 packs from the latest standard, alchemy, or horizons/remastered release, you get a gold pack which is a pretty good value especially for building a timeless collection.
It also means that decks just have more rares in general, especially in Sealed. Nobody is really opening 12+ rares in sealed, but getting eight to 10 rares out of six packs is doable, and even in draft you more often play with and against rares.
There are a lot of effects that happen when the rare density goes up, and overall it's certainly put a lot more emphasis on high-rarity cards. You should aggressively take sideboard answers in best of three, and make sure you have a good amount of removal in best of one.
Another obvious effect here is that you wheel cards less often, which means you can't count on much coming back around. That's a shame, since wheeling something good for you is a really fun part of draft (and a nice reward for being in the right colors). It's not a huge deal, since it's mostly just an outgrowth of the previous point, but it is something I miss.
I think these are all pretty big negatives. Especially with sealed, I haven't played MKM sealed but I have been turned off from trying because of the new pack type. I really think they should have kept the Draft Booster and the Collector Booster, and got rid of the Set booster. Just put a random art card in the draft booster along with the list slot.
I love free stuff!
All I have to say is THANK GOD they got rid of the Geist combo. I'm thankful they hit Geo appraiser too but Geist/Fragment was just ridiculous. An own goal that took them too long to address and dramatically impacted historic.
FYI I don't think the bot is looking at post titles but this is a good update I will add in later
This was really cool
This is so cool, thanks for posting it. What an opportunity that must have been to playtest MtG in the beginning when they were ironing out the rules.
