If people are running steam games through chromeos then yeah, count it! I would also count windows for ARM as windows…

What are you talking about? You could take a car, a motorcycle, a taxi, an Uber, a bus, you name it!

I think their argument is that the job exists because of capitalism and without the driving force of an economy being capital, the role of an influencer is gone.

There is a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode about just this.

I’m curious about his plans to do something similar to the earbuds. For me, that’s way more important. I don’t foresee my case getting damaged, or having to worry about the battery as much as the earbuds.

Way more complicated though.

Pretty much every school is equipped with a firewall that blocks pornography, social media, and now in some cases GPT. But the thing about that is that by my estimate about 95% of students’ phones use cellular data which nullifies any school board’s attempt to block content.

I’m a teacher and have a no phone policy in my classroom, but during work periods they have a way of appearing. So stand behind them, take a rubber band and shoot it at the screen. They tend to find it pretty funny and surprising, and I reckon the surprise breaks the dopamine flow. Almost always they’ll stow the phone back in their bag without protest.

Even then, though, unhealthy phone use among teenagers is a huge problem. I know that an outright school ban might not be the correct solution, and that encouraging digital literacy is necessary (by the way this is something many teachers have already been doing for decades) but seeing first hand the effect that a dopamine addiction has on an adolescent brain is extremely distressing. It’s kind of like trying to encourage a person — nay, a teenager — to have a healthy relationship with cocaine. It’s impossible. And even outside of school, so many of my students are up during all hours of the night on TikTok, or YouTube Shorts, then showing up to school exhausted. Throw in the effect of social media, and it’s a recipe for disaster. IMO it’s one of the major contributing factors of teen mental health and ultimately suicide.

While I share your sentiment completely, I have a bad feeling that this is the beginning of something bigger. AFAIK the Twitter purchase was Musk’s first venture into building an everything app, and he already owns x.com. I think this is one of the first steps.

I got a Dualsense recently and love it. The USB C charging is especially nice.

How do you know that? I’m fairly certain that google can tell if they have served you an ad, and cutting off access to their streaming services seems like a straightforward thing from their point of view. How could ublock (or anything) prevent google from blocking the stream? It’s not about blocking ads, or blocking messages to turn your adblocker off. It’s about google acknowledging that they haven’t served you an ad. You can’t force them to serve a video, I don’t think.

This “feature” is being rolled out slowly, which probably means they are taking lots of telemetry about how users try to circumvent this. It also means that just because you or I haven’t seen it does not mean we are safe against it. I’m not saying there is no solution, but I don’t think the solution is an adblocker or a sinkhole.

Yeah, I have a different SSID/pw too (several SSIDs with corresponding VLANs) but if OP is trying to do this covertly, this would help.
