This works best when your services are all running through a browser. You can set up most torrent clients to only work through a vpn. The rest of your traffic should be fine unless you don’t want your ISP to know that you’ve visited torrent sites.

The *arr services are fantastic for helping you organize your content as you download them. They won’t find anything that you wouldn’t be able to find yourself, though. You feed it your indexers via Jackett or Prowlarr for torrents, or NewzNab (or equivalent) for Usenet. What shows up on my Sonarr searches is likely very different than somebody else’s since we likely have different indexers.

If you are looking for content that is hard to find I would recommend getting into Usenet or joining a private tracker.

If you want to get into building a large library and hosting your it on a Plex/Jellyfin/Emby server, I would recommend getting into Sonarr and Radarr, and then learning about the other *arrs.

I use Windows, macOS, and Linux, but all in separate ways. Haven’t used a desktop Linux in quite some time — only headless Linux servers.

This might just be the push I need to switch to Linux desktop.

But if the antenna passes the usb port then it doesn’t really matter.

A friend of mine had a $2500 gaming laptop that couldn’t use WiFi when he used an external display. He ended up having to use two separate dongles, one for DisplayPort and another for Ethernet. It worked, but was pretty dumb. In the end, though, I was happy that at least he was using a wired connection.

I’ve seen this exact problem on other laptops. Not saying it’s okay, but it’s not exactly an Apple only problem. It’s a “let’s cram everything into this single port and hope it doesn’t interfere with anything” problem.

Who said anything about your data not being tracked and sold still?

That’s the approximate price meta gets paid just for serving the ad. I would imagine your data is worth much more than that.

Yeah the headline is dead wrong. Privacy ≠ ad free.

That said, paying for a service is the one solution to getting rid of ads that I can see working in general. In general I don’t see this as a bad thing.

I don’t think you’ll find many providers that offer free trials, although I stand to be corrected. But some will accept crypto so if you don’t want to give your credit card details you could try that.
