People get fined for having unsafe vehicles on public roads all the time. All that’s needed here is a regulatory body to decide self-driving cars are unsafe enough to revoke approval.
Maybe at least until there’s a better comprehensive infrastructure of external sensors on the road, at intersections, etc etc etc, to control and limit vehicle movement, but that probably will be a long while before getting those improvements considering normal routine road and bridge maintenance is far behind as it is.
Look dude, db0 himself posted in those communities and invited them over. Even made communities for them to drop into and they said they didn’t want to fracture the community and deleted his invite posts. I don’t make their policy, and I’m not going to copy over their posts like I’m a bot. All the experts are there (the emulator devs and modders) for now that’s how it is. They seem to be considering moving more seriously now than before due to pinned mega helpthreads getting nuked, but I don’t call the shots there. I just do my best to mention lemmy in those moments in a way that doesn’t get me banned. That’s it. I have no desire to single handedly jumpstart it here. I don’t care that much.

Don’t bother with an iphone for this ever. Use a desktop browser with uBlock and you should be fine. uBlock also short-circuits most of the secondary 5-second countdown timers on the middleman link sharing sites that provide the final download page. (but not on 1fincher, for example.)
edit: I should mention that I’m behind a pihole, so not sure how much is blocked by that vs uBlock.
But I cannot force emulation communities to make the switch. Until they get tired of posts being removed and replacement subreddits getting banned, I have to be there occasionally to catch up.

I’m pretty sure the actual concern has less to do with “feeling weird” and more “because it and/or its inattentive driver may suddenly kill me” because of a dysfunctional self-driving system whose capabilities has been fraudulently marketed and has, in reality, repeatedly, killed people.
