They also weren't destroying rare books. They were buying in-print books from major retailers, which means that while yes, that is environmentally wasteful, it's not actually destroying books in the classical destruction of knowledge sense since the manufacturer will just print another one if there's demand for it.

No, it was after their lawyers told them that was illegal and would cause them to lose a fair use copyright claim.

The diagnosed ones generally are, the others are generally self medicating in a variety of other ways, from caffeine to alcohol to nicotine to marijuana to illicit amphetamines.

For countries like Finland, the Ministry of Defense is not about offense, and is very heavily armed.

Oooh what an insult. I'm totally going to be embarassed by my public display name.

Yeah, it would not surprise me if the Supreme Court blocked it for being too reasonable.

Yup, gave mine to a neighbourhood kid that I babysat.

Honestly, over the years I think I've come to sour on the whole notion of collecting things as a hobby.

It's one thing if you're collecting stuff that no one wants and will be junked otherwise, or are collecting things to restore them and get rid of them again, but collecting stuff that is either highly desired or potentially used, just to collect it and have it sit there, feels really wasteful and self indulgent.

This judge actually fully understand how companies abuse two sided marketplaces and is thus forcing Google to open up both sides of the marketplace to competition. Both forcing Google to host new app stores inside the Play store so that they're visible to consumers, and forcing Google to allow those app stores to distribute the Google Play apps so that the app stores aren't crippled by a lack of developers.

This is a way way way bigger win than I could ever have hoped for.

PC Gamers think Epic is the devil incarnate because they paid for exclusive games for the EGS, meanwhile they have spent the majority of their fortune on massive legal fees making a bigger impact in the world of digital anti-trust than virtually anyone else on the planet.

Allowing companies to conglomerate is the single worst thing that prevents capitalism from functioning even a little bit, and tech companies are the worst at falsely claiming that every product needs to be tied to every other product, because they can use software and continuous updates to break any third party compatibility that is created.

Lmfao, you take your ADHD diagnosis too seriously.

Like half the planet has ADHD or undiagnosed ADHD, your not neuro atypical, you're pretty normal.

Business owners on Bathurst are running an astroturf campaign using AI generated videos of fake people to try and stop on-street parking being turned into dedicated transit lanes.

They claim they just want their voices heard, when in reality they're upset that others' collective voices are louder than theirs. They also make nonsense statements like it shouldn't be trade-off, when it inherently is since there is limited street space on Bathurst.

The owners of Summerhill Market seem affiliated with the group but are trying to pretend they're not, and the owner of Minerva Cannabis appears to be one of the leaders of the group, and decision makers behind the AI videos.

Don't buy those crappy plastic bag-clips to hold chip bags, flour bags, etc closed. They're unsatisfying, they wear out and bend, and they just add more plastic pollution to the world.

Instead buy more binder clips. They're made from spring steel, they're strong as hell, they almost never wear out, they can be used to close bags, as small clamps, as hangers for almost anything in a pinch, and they're amazing for building pillow / blanket forts.

I have some from my grandma that she bought 30 years ago and they work just as well as the ones I bought a year ago. The only risk with them ever is rust, and you can just scrub that off with vinegar, add a brush of paint and it's fixed.

Truly some of my favourite robust little items.

I can't be the only reddit migrant who often instinctually goes to a given community by typing /r/community, only to be 404d. If the /r/ path isn't being used for anything else, is it possible to have it dynamically redirect to /c/ instead?

The federal New Democrats backed Conservative demands Wednesday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau take part in a televised "emergency meeting" on carbon pricing with Canada's premiers.

The federal carbon price is not the "be-all, end-all" of climate policy, and New Democrats are open to alternative plans presented by premiers, NDP environment critic Laurel Collins said Wednesday.
