asus zenfone 9/10 is the closest i've found, which has the headphone jack and no weirdo frills of other contemporary phones.

I switched over to Jellyfin 99% of the time, because it has hardware acceleration feature for free and also plays endlessly. Occasionally i still use plex because jellyfin sometimes fails to play certain encodings on Roku.

Yeah Microsoft is a huge company with many, many teams. Some produce amazing things (C#, .Net Core), some produce insane things (Teams, Outlook)

Yeah the apps i can't really defend. For those you just have to find alternatives i guess. Unless your work forces them on you.

I know everyone shits on win11, but just 10 minutes of setup and it works absolutely fine

I'd say its a bandaid to bad design

For items like Ammo in RE4Remake for example, why put them in barrels that blend in with the environment? If your graphics engine is too photorealistic, maybe put them somewhere else where they don't blend in? Or just degrade the photorealism slightly so that the barrels stand out?

For environmental interactions, like ladders, its not hard to make them stand out. Use lighting, level design, or narrative to drive your players. Just slapping yellow paint on everything is embarrassing.

I really do dislike the 'Yellow Paint' phenomenon of modern games. Its so infantilizing and really pulls you out of the game experience. Why look at anything that doesn't have yellow paint anymore? you can't interact with it...

The story isn't usually the problem for me; its the execution of it.

Disco Elysium would be the best example. 'Tales of'/Trails games being some of the worst for me. I don't mind hero's journey stories, i just don't like my time being wasted.

I haven't played symphonia, i only have done abyss, berseria, and whatever the newest one was.

I just remember the games taking so incredibly long to drive the plot. One specific one in abyss I think, was like you were in an Inn with your party member having a convo and she's about to divulge a major plot point of some kind, then a dragon comes and attacks the inn for some reason and you never finish the conversation for like hours later.

I immediately wish the Tales Of series of games had this. god that game is so incredibly disrespectful of your time when its telling you its 'story'
