Kika: raise the palm of my hand threateningly, and start saying things like "nojenta" (disgusting), "jaguara" (sly), "cachaceira" (drunkard), "chata" (boring) etc. Most cats will go away. Kika will however come closer and turn her butt towards me, as if saying "slap it".

Siegfrieda: start speaking in German. No, seriously. She actually identifies when I'm speaking in Portuguese or in German, and if it's the later she immediately thinks it's something with her. Good luck finding 99 cats with a bent mouth and a protruding fang, though.

Two additional hypotheses:

  1. They were larger than necessary because they were "one size fits all". You'd pad them internally with some socks, as needed.
  2. The shoes survived because they were too large for most people. For example, other shoes could've been used by the soldiers, or simply stolen by outsiders once the fort fell into disuse.

Did they even have the option not to go nuclear?

Yes: hide only the games tagged "adult" (subset tag), instead of all games tagged "nsfw" (superset tag), to reduce the disruption. And then work swiftly to relist the adult games with content not being targeted by the payment mafia. Even if itch.io showed one or two false negatives, it would already be a clear sign of good will towards the mafia.

I'm glad the people working there did not do this though. I hope itch io lets the disruption stays on, for as long as possible; preferably affecting as many non-adult games as possible.

The actual threat:

Yay!

I wish it had a Linux version, but nowadays Proton works rather well, so not going to complain about it. I played a bit the earlier versions, and so far it looks like a genuine improvement over SR1 - a fun game already.

I criticised how apologetic itch.io's statement was towards the payment mafia, but credits where it's due:

Going nuclear was the smart move. I seriously doubt this censorship wave would've gathered so much attention if itch.io only delisted games with the content the mafia is currently going against. It helps to avoid that slippery slope, where people turn a blind eye to small violations of their agency until it's on something that personally matters to them.

It's also sensible to look for alternatives, so it doesn't need to rely on the mafia on first place. A bit too late, but better late than never.

In order:

  1. Farming - I enjoy it, and it gives me lots of money.
  2. Fishing - I hate fishing, but it gives me lots of money.
  3. Mining - I like it, but for me it's just a way to gather resources.

do you want to give us your phone number for future sign-ins?

Urgh, that's probably the worst part.

I don't mind mail-based 2FA. However, since I see "random sites have your phone number" as a bigger threat than "skript kiddo might hack your password", if the 2FA must use my phone number, I'll genuinely think if I really need an account in that site, and probably give up.

Anyone else read this and excited for it?

Me. I love this series. Scarlet's personality is so atypical it's refreshing.

Expect memes like "$person deserves to meet Scarlet".
