I'm also surprised.

I think larger studios might be focusing on stuff that is likely to be popular with the kids at home for the summer vacations in Japan; if that's correct odds are that the next season will see more isekai again in the top 15.

Kind of funny that 2/5 of the series that I'm watching that appear in this list were things that I picked on a whim - 2.5D Seduction and Bye, Bye Earth. (The other three are Isekai Shikkaku, Failure Frame, and TenSura s3.)

Other stuff that I'm watching

  • Dungeon no Naka no Hito (also picked on a whim, kind of okay?)
  • Isekai Yururi Kikou (I'm considering dropping this one)
  • QA in Another World (kind of a letdown to be honest)
  • Dahlia in Bloom (pleasantly surprised with it)
  • Elf-san wa Yaserarenai. (please don't judge me on this one...)
  • Maougun Saikyou no Majutsushi wa Ningen datta (Eh.)
  • Mob kara Hajimaru Tansaku Eiyuutan (run-off-the-mill story, might drop it later)
  • Naze Boku no Sekai wo Daremo (weird but so far I'm digging it)
  • NieR 1.1 part 2 (I don't play the games, but the whole 2B and 9S story is interesting)
  • Spice and Wolf (I'm liking this version quite a bit)
  • Shinmain Ossan Boukensha (silly premise, nice message, OK implementation)

I gave up and read the released manga chapters. If I disliked Tobias already, due to ep02, the manga made me want to paint a wall with his face. Good motherfucking riddance!

A shame that they didn't adapt the part where she's still speaking with a feminine pattern, but a male voice. It would be cute.

Haga looking for his friends, Nikola hosting the meta-AI Tesla, this episode was mostly exposition. And it shows that the world is actually keeping track of what the debuggers do, and what they were supposed to.

The animation isn't as good as I feel like this series deserved. Still, I'm having fun with it. The scene where Tesla chomps on the debugging stone was specially fun.

That sounds really cool, I'm going to give it a check. Thank you for the rec!

I'm pleased with how the anime handled "the woman" being chased and then meeting with Touka, but specially with the slimes. They're rather expressive for something faceless. [PIGIMARU JOINS THE PARTY]

And if the earlier two episodes didn't spell this out, the goddess manages to be even worse of a piece of shit than Tsukimichi's "Bug".

I love how much this episode shows Sensei's character:

Sure, he's fucked up, and he wants to die a really weird way that appeases his aesthetic sense. But he's also extremely observant, deeply knows human nature, and he's also able to unearth what not even a person knows about themself.

And he isn't buying your bullshit, like "either this or that".

I also feel like this episode was a great adaptation of the manga. "Tama" and Annette dragging the coffin, the princess deciding for a double suicide with Sensei and then giving it up, the two potential new kings being a demon and a good-for-nothing...

[bullet points]

Damn. Now I want a solarpunk isekai.

I am sure it would not sit well with test audiences since no one likes being told their culture is bad, but even Earth cultures are incompatible across sufficient geographic distances and spans of history.

I have a personal example confirming that:

When I started cooking Japanese dishes at home, some of my folks here found the Japanese savoury dishes too sweet, and they liked them better when I subbed ginger for black+red pepper. To make it less exotic, more similar to what they typically eat.

And yet they live in the same world and the time period as people who live with those dishes, whom mirin (the sweet ingredient) is part of a holy trinity!

Is Japanese food bad? Fuck no! (At least for me. I cook it for a reason.) But for people in isekai, Japanese dishes wouldn't be just "exotic", they're alien. Getting everyone to say "omaaaae! oishiiiiii!" because the MC prepared something from Japan feels silly.

I'm going blind into this series (I didn't read the source), so you can pretty much imagine how big of an urge to punch the screen Tobias is giving me. "Waaah, you're too tall!" "Waah, don't drink so much", "Waah" aaah sod off you muppet!

Work-wise Dahlia is clearly a one-of-a-kind artificer. It's easy to think "I'm going to reinvent [thing] in isekai!", but that diligence that she shows - researching things, thinking on how to solve issues etc. - is not for everyone. And yet it's what makes someone exceptional at a craft.

I wish I could've taken a better screenshot, but then the "Oh, I'll be fine..." line wouldn't be there.

It was fun how nonchalant he was towards the whole thing, while poor Nikola was desperate.

It seemed so for me. I might need to re-check the episode, but I think that they were even using pronouns that don't reveal the gender to refer to her.

Or alternatively my brain just farted.

Frankly if I were trapped in a game world there's no way that I'd keep work as usual like Haga. I'd probably burrow myself somewhere, blacksmithing the Infinity+1 sword or brewing some OP potion. Or building a huge tower like another debugger does later on.)

The premise of this series is the villainess time looping seven times. In six of them, the prince of her kingdom breaks up the engagement with her, she lives for a few years doing some trade (merchant, soldier, herbalist, maid...), and then she dies as consequences of a war caused by a foreign emperor. And in the seventh loop, the same emperor asks her hand in marriage.

If you like romance and/or otome you'll likely like this series.
