I still remember playing trough time crisis 2 with a friend at the arcade. Remember those force feedback light gun pistols? Man, those were the days...

I think it's still the best keyboard for typing I've ever used. The tactile feedback is just awesome and the noise is actually very helpful to keep a rhythm going, improving typing speed because you mistype less, I believe.

I started my PC journey with an early cherry keyboard, one of those rubber dome/mechanical hybrid copies of the original model m. It was not too bad, I think. I then used some Logitech rubber domes for e next two decades or so. Heard that mechanical keyboards are a thing five years ago or so. Bought one of those cherry hybrids again but found that it was alright for gaming but not that great for typing. Then bought the cheapest blue switch mechanical Chinese keyboard to write my thesis on which was really great for typing but annoyed the fuck out of every one at the uni library I am sure. Bit the bullet and bought a model m as a full size keyboard for home use. And also a very cheap numpad-less brown switch one for gaming (15 euros including shipping because the h key was broken). It was an easy soldering job and has been my go to (fps) gaming one for ever since.

So yeah, model m is still the typing king for me and brown keys are best for gaming imho. But if you are on a budget, a blue key mechanical keyboard will be still very satisfying for typing.

How are you supposed to play this? Light guns only work on crt-screens if I am not completely mistaken. They should rather remake "The typing of the dead" :)

Layout does not matter as much in my opinion, it's been fine since the snes controller and not evolved much past the ps1 controller which still works great to this day. I think per game rebinds are missing very often from games made during the last decade at least. Some programmer with a God complex just decided: this is how I would set the controls now everyone who wants to play my game better get used to this.

On a pc you can at least use some external tool to rebind the controller, but it's a lot of hassle and there are lots and lots of other games to play. I think this kind of attitude costs customers.

And don't get me started on console games. They are made for sheeple, there is not even an option to rebind the controller for any games available to this day. Correct me if I am wrong. But I was playing gran turismo in vr at my brothers the other day. The shift up is on the lower button and vica versa for some reason. Sure you can get used to this after a couple of hours but it feels like having look up and down reversed while playing a fps.

Why on earth are there still any games available in 2025 that don't let the user rebind the controls to their liking?

Oh yeah, unlucky :(

There is also transportr and a couple of other apps on fdroid if you search for transport. Maybe you find something for your region.

Try Oeffi for public transport, it's awesome.

Or pick xmpp instead, the reliable lightweight completely foss alternative.

Get one that is supported by valetudo. The software lets supported vacuum robots run locally, without the need to connect to cloud services. It integrates well with home assistant too.

As a bonus my roborock now talks like glados from portal.

Is it you Sif? Sif I've finally found you!

If you are on the usa or Canada, you can use jmp.chat as an alternative. It provides a phone number via the xmpp protocol. It might be possible to set up on your own server as well, have a look here:

Consider undervolting cpu and gpu and you will be able to get away with a leaner psu. I always do this and there really is no downside if you overclock the gpu a little to compensate for the undervolting. Your system will run cooler as well often stopping cpu/gpu from throttling down, so with a bit of luck you can even gain performance while saving on power. It depends on the cpu/gpu combo, but you can expect to save around 50 Watts under full load with both components properly undervoltet.

Here's a very good guide for undervolting your gpu under windows, it's meant for nvidia gpus but the process is very similar with amd gpu's and/or under linux.
