Peter F Hamilton is fun to read, but boy does he like deus ex machina resolutions to his plots.
Along the space battle/space military route there's the Vorkosigan Saga and Vatta's War.
I don't know how far season 1 of the Netflix series goes, but the comic has two volumes. Well there's a third fan-made volume, but we don't talk about that one.

The only thing I find objectionable is that the comic implies that the damage to consumers is not intentional. Even passing the government's actions through Hanlon's razor still leaves room for malice.
