As per title, if you had to switch away from Spotify ASAP, what streaming service would you go with? Ideally something around the same price range, meaning the change won't incur in extra expenses. Also good if the service does its job well: playing music and paying artists. Any feature parity with Spotify is a bonus, except podcasts, which don't require a paid streaming service. Or audiobooks. Focus on music. No piracy either (it's illegal). The more money going to artists, the better.

Edit: extra bonus points if it is not 'Murican! Also, piracy is very illegal!!!

Taking sexual relationship as its own thing, separate from romantic relationship (i.e. separating the sexual and romantic aspects), what is the difference between a friendship and a romantic relationship? What differentiates them, exactly?

There's an ever-growing amount of music available today, a few taps (or clicks) away. I for one feel like there's a lot of great music in many genres and styles, coming from many countries, and in many languages. And there's always new, interesting stuff coming out regularly.

Whether a new release from an artist you like, or an old one you want to go back to, there are so many options to choose from at any given point in time. Yet we can only hear one at a time, so we must choose. So…

How do you choose what to listen to, and how do you keep up with everything you want to keep up with? Do you manage to listen to everything you want to on a regular basis? Do you instead choose to articially limit yourself to keep sane? Or is your music taste narrow enough this is of no worry?

As per title, I am curious. How does your mind / your thoughts work? I only ever experienced my own thoughts, so I'm curious how it works for other people.

I for one feel like my thoughts sometimes are like me talking to myself silently. Sometimes I can even let out a random short sound, which I've come to start disguising by laughing kinda quietly or coughing or whatever. Like it was part of something, and not like an inner monologue almost leaking out.

So, how do your thoughts work?

Pardon me if these questionings are offensive in any way. That is not my intention. I am merely curious on the intricacies of the N-word and its uses.

It is commonly known, I think, that white people oughn't say it, something which doesn't extend to Black people. I wonder, though, if white people think of the word, in their head (assuming the person has some sort of inmer monologue). I would imagine thinking the word might increase one's propensity to utter the word aloud. Or perhaps not. Certainly further exposure to content that features said language must increase one's likelihood of using the term, no? Even if one never makes use of it aloud, surely the chances hypotetically increase, no?

Race is a social construct anyways, so what exactly are races? What defines a race? Is it from a 'Murican perspective? Asian is a race, innit? Is Latin American a race? If so, do white Latin Americans, or those with European descent, is that part of such race? How does the usage of the N-word apply to other races, assuming such thing?

Edit: I imagine race doesn't just boil down to skin colour, right? There's more to it than white = light skinned and Black = dark skinned, innit?

I'd like to add I am not questioning the N-word itself. I would not say it. I comprehend it is offensive. Seeing as it gets used by Black people, and it's not to be used by white people, I was merely wondering on how this goes exactly. Whether it boils down to Black vs. non-Black, and what exactly defines being Black. (And also the part about thinking the word)

To add, I am not 'Murican, so no need to assume that. English isn't even me first language.

Or if you good mateys know of any tricks one could apply, cause every other post here is about the US and, as someome who's never stepped foot on the damn country—and might never do so—, this is rather annoying. Yes, president bad. So and so bad. Whatever. I wish to see myself free of this madness, if anyone has any tips. Or maybe I should quit Lemmy, touch grass instead. Idk. I was gonna post this on Ask Lemmy, but then I thought maybe Technology would be a better fit for the theme. But then I saw it's mostly news, so I thought perhaps Ask Lemmy would indeed be a better fit. If this is not the case, please point me to the right direction.

As a heads-up, I am not 'Murican, and never been to 'Murica, so keep that in mind.

Seeing the recent news with France trying to age-restrict pornographic material online, I was wondering and have sort of an idea, that I wonder if it is actually doable and actually good.

Hear me out: the gobermint likely already has your data, right? At least stuff like name, date of birth, etc. The gobirment could have a private and secure service, which websites and services could use to confirm certain requirements.

For instance: A website wants to confirm if you're over 18. The website essentially asks the official gob. service, "is this user at least 18 years of age?". The official gob. service essentially has to answer "yes, your requirements are met" or "no, your requirements are not met", without giving away information on a person. The user gets prompted, being told what information is being required and whether they wish to share that. The official service wouldn't know where the request is coming from, but the original website requesting the information generates and shows a temporary code, which is not related to the website at all and is sent to the gob. service, so that the user can confirm it is indeed the website they were using that is requesting this, and not a hijack of some kind. The gob. service, if allowed by the user, sends out this confirmation to the original website, without the gob. service knowing the website and without the website knowing the user's info. The website then knows whether their requirements are met and can then act accordingly, such as by not allowing someone to access adult material if they do not meet the age requirement.

Does this make sense? Is it doable? Could it be a potential private and secure way of confirming user information without either party having access to the other's information? Obviously, the idea could be worked on and polished, but as a starting point.
