And I'm conveying your blind spot which seems to be that you can't function in this society without WhatsApp, which I've done since its inception.

And I'm sure I will perform equally well as yourself and others going into the future without it.

That's the thing.....I do understand your qualms about having to use them even if it irks you no end because you're 'now not a weirdo', and having run establishments prior to these days I find it amusing that you're now required to indulge in sharing your contact list because it's the "norm".

Which is awesome because I somehow manage to keep in touch with fellow friends, colleagues, family and even talking to others on platforms such as this without conglomerates poking my metadata ~~too~~ as much.

edit: too > as

And that's why if I was self employed I'd use another phone entirely or promote the usage of some other way of contacting me/us. Never would I have WhatsApp installed on my personal device (Dual SIM and all) since it's my choice, which I can make.

Peer pressure, social norms, and even "bosses demanding you join their WhatsApp to communicate" is a non starter here.

I think it annoys my immediate boss that I use our corporate email for everything, or even simply calling them telling them the most menial of things.

It is an option, believe me, you're just doing what your employer tells you to.

But they can't force you to use WhatsApp unless you signed a contract of employment stating so? And if you did that the onus falls on you.

You can't get rid of Whatsapp.

Very true, but you can also never ever give them your number and then get funny looks from friends, colleagues, and pretty much everyone in the UK.

I for one am proud of getting those funny looks.

I remember Marissa somewhere espousing why Google's homepage was so "clean".

But I do recall fondly iGoogle homepage/doodles like mentioned elsewhere in here too

What data in particular are you after pulling from Bromide?

I've never used it so not aware of its interface but most browsers allow you to grab your usernames / passwords (tip: it's a bad idea to store them in a browsers data and a password manager the better route) even if it means doing each one individually if it doesn't allow mass exporting of data.

But as the above commenters have said using an out of date browser is something to put some time aside to fix. Good luck!

You can do a few of the shake gestures with Tasker actually, but Moto gestures generally require some fiddling about with the ROM itself and isn't something Lineage offers out of the box AFAIK.

Obvious elephant in the room is some of these mobile environments are stigmatized by the need for "security" and taking away the freedom of what a desktop OS offers.

The very best example is the background playback of audio on a website called YouTube.com.

Why you can't play things in the background (yes, I have Kiwi etc and can do this) on mobile is very very telling, and will only get more restrictive.

Exactly, and the way it work(ed) on reddit was a non-plus from the start, especially if you modded moderately large subs hence me never blocking anyone other than those annoying accounts.

The art of ignoring is key ;)

[–] ladfrombrad@lemdro.id 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

but I have nothing against the users.

Absolutely, and in 12+ years of using reddit the only accounts funnily enough I've had to block are admin accounts, and I liken the above to users from other subreddits being able to able to interact in other subs until they either

  • get banned by the sub /c/ mods

  • individual users using the block function

Tarring users from instances is like using that SaferBot bullshit which I've never liked.

Why not, post something here that's like you say pretty niche and generates discussion about it?

If it wasn't posted here I wouldn't have heard about it and why I subscribe to such places for news on these devices.
