I for one don't find young people to be attractive

I'm curious where this statement came from since I don't see any context other than you trying to call the OP names?

Could you expand please?

Aye, me too and like you say it's hard to not defeat the point of one if you're unplugging the bloody thing all the time.

The one I've got thou did come with three cables of different lengths and for a while I used the short 0.5m at work since I could just jam it in small cargo pants pocket, medium length stored in locker and the longer 3m one at home. Still unplugged the adapter and is now in a drawer.....somewhere.

Saying this, they do have the bonus (including that 3.5mm button thing i have above) of making the device more water resistant 👀

Funny you mention that, I had the M7/8 like OP and also had one of those Dot Matrix cases for mine which gave you a second screen so to speak. You could even use custom apps with it.

Another thing I bought at the time was one of these for the headphone jack. Never really caught on thou :/

You don't need to pay a subscription fee for cloud storage when it's super simple to host your own, and Android allows the mounting of different filesystems too.

SMB on a rasp pi + cheapo storage + Tailscale, all the way to paying £$€ for a dedicated NAS enclosure with as much storage as you can afford also with Tailscale?

Yup, fuck subscription fees.

You also can then use the corporate cloud storage providers like G/ProtonDrive etc to use their free offerings for off site backup of the most important data.

Hey John.

I'm sorry, but we've had to remove this post and you're better trying in the dedicated community over in !askandroid@lemdro.id

Cheers!

Just be aware with Xiaomi phones that you might be restricted for certain things.

You can't unlock without setting up a Xiaomi account that includes, from memory, your email address, phone number, and date of birth.

Your memory really is not great, and you can use throwaway emails to deal with registering/receiving codes from them.

You're using sleep as android

OP could've changed the settings according to the docs to repeat backup alarms with that app :)

https://docs.sleep.urbandroid.org/alarms/backup.html

RIP their neighbour.

Fun tidbit? I have a Cubot King Kong Pro (yes, it's called that) which has the old Nokia feature of actually turning the phone on if its off to sound a scheduled alarm. I left my Cubot in my locker at work and it wasn't until I got back in a week or so later did my locker neighbour tell me about my locker, making funny sounds....I have "Fuck You Mr Garrison" as one of my alarm tones.

Ooops.

The main thing about having a screen protector to me is it having a bonus oleophobic coating besides the one that comes with your phone (and gets worn off with shit like hand sanitizer).

That means I can just chuck another one on when it eventually turns to shit and / or I wanna sell / give the phone away and I wouldn't worry too much about "brands".

I think it's bloody excellent in both that you've had that phone so long, and now have the mindset to shop in advance for something to buy outright (I hate contract phones) for something that will see you right again for hopefully as long again.

Each OEM has their ups and downs, and what I'd do is watch some YT reviews from reputable peeps like MrMobile whilst then loading up GSMarena's phone compare tool to check the specs of devices that take your fancy, and then hit up eBay/Swappa etc to see what after sale prices are like to determine if owners devices are holding their price (cheap after prices = poopeyer phone?) but also showing if people are keeping them.... because they just work without complaint. Just like your S7 for the past 7 years 👌

Good stuff, and happy phone shopping you ;)

How long have you had your S7?

That must be knocking on a bit now, and to be honest you could save yourself some wonga but still enjoy an upgraded experience even with some older...ish Android phones.

Which brings me to another question. Is Samsung the only OEM you're looking at, because there're some pretty good deals from others such as Moto/Xiaomi/Sony etc?

Messaging others is not "social media", and you conflating that with using a messaging app is fairly telling.

I don't intend to nor use iMessage.
