I am not against it on principle but I never ever missed Touch ID. I however miss Face ID on my iPad Mini having to touch the power button every time.

Apple really spoiled us out of nowhere with Face ID. Truly an example of a feature no one was asking for and we were content with just touch, but it’s so good it made even the awful notch worth it.

I can honestly say I miss 3D Touch more than I miss Touch ID. Does that mean they should bring that back?

Is this a red flag? When buying a used iPhone, I want to make sure it's not stolen and asked to see settings. He said he needs to sign in with apple id first. in c/apple@hardware.watch

Not a red flag to me if he’s done a factory reset before selling. Sounds like you’re meeting in person. Just take the 15 min with the seller and put in your sim and login with your Apple ID. Check the battery settings and download an app at least.
