We need to get /r/askhistorians onboard lmao. After that everything else will fall into place

I don't think it's a social media site any more, I think it's a propaganda site and a data harvesting operation.
I agree, but I also think that most social media has been propaganda and data harvesting all the way down from day one.
Like, the internet was not made by accident, or for no reason. It was developed at public universities with military funding.
JUST LIKE TWITTER! I love that the new internet comes in two flavors, "open source hippie (doesn't work well)" and "vaguely fascist (also doesn't work that well tbh)"
I heard he was eaten by a puppy
If the protest is definitely not affecting Reddit whatsoever, then why would they remove the mods?
I use Brave and I actually really like it, but I don't recommend it to other people because the crypto shit is frankly kind of embarrassing. It takes a fundamentally good piece of software and makes it feel scammy. I wish they would figure out a better business model, but it's not like I have any ideas.
I'm comfortable just turning all of it off in the settings, but I don't feel comfortable recommending it to people who are less technical than I am because I can already tell they'll be like "You said this was supposed to be more secure why is it trying to sell me crypto"
EDIT: Still, though, ultimately whenever I have to use anyone's "regular" device without adblocking and everything I'm shocked at how annoying the internet is, so Brave is doing its job haha.
The global village is a company town.
Hahaha I remember there were kids who would print out hentai on the school library printer and then sell the pieces of paper for $.25 in the boy's bathroom.
Sometimes people can just be pointlessly combative. I remember I was asking for help fixing some stuff on my bike, and some guy was like "do you REALLY need to maintain your bike that much?" and it was just like... Well, I don't necessarily do this stuff often... But I do have to do it right now. So. Help or fuck off??
Some complaining is natural.
However, one problem I have with Mastodon is people talk way too much about Twitter on it. IMO they should just let Mastodon be Mastodon. But, on Mastodon it's been months, with Reddit it's been like a day haha. Let people vent a little bit. But I think you're on the right track.
Yeah, it seems pretty obvious that their end goal here is to get people off of 3rd party apps and off of old.reddit so their eyeballs will be exposed to more ads. I now no longer really care how many more people there are on reddit. I'll do some silly shit to avoid looking at ads. It's almost like a religious thing for me.
Isn't this exactly how gmail treats a LOT of other email services? Email is a mess of spam and whitelists and is barely usable as a result, partially because there is no human moderation.
