Gemini will also attempt to provide you with a help line, though it's very easy to talk your way through that. Lumo, Proton's LLM, will straight up halt any conversation even remotely adjacent to topics like that.

That's what people (and many articles about LLMs "learning how to bribe others" and similar) fail to understand about LLMs:

They do not understand their internal state. ChatGPT does not know it's got a creator, an administrator, a relationship to OpenAI, an user, a system prompt. It only replies with the most likely answer based on the training set.

When it says "I'm sorry, my programming prevents me from replying that" you feel like it calculated an answer, then put it through some sort of built in filtering, then decided not to reply. That's not the case. The training is carefully manipulated to make "I'm sorry, I can't answer that" the perceived most likely answer to that query. As far as ChatGPT is concerned, "I can't reply that" is the same as "cheese is made out of milk", both are just words likely to be stringed together given the context.

So getting to your question: sure, you can make ChatGPT reply with the training's set vision of "what's the most likely order of words and tone a LLM would use if it roleplayed the user as some sort of owner" but that changes fundamentally nothing about the capabilities and limitations, except it will likely be even more sycophantic.

Users make abhorrent weird workarounds for that, like running a PC software that uses a free temporary developer license to re-license an app on your phone, that then uses that license to resign other apps ""automatically""

Haven’t really run into any issues with them

This has been changed if you're lucky enough to have a recent Android version, but not long ago any gallery app sideloaded from external sources couldn't be set as the system gallery, meaning managing pictures was really annoying because any changes required a pop up confirmation.

If Google is sad, I'm happy

The FSF (and RMS himself) wanted an alternative for online payments for ages, without crypto. An anonymous buffer layer between your payment method, like a credit card, and the vendor. I believe something was eventually released but it never took off, because unlike something like a NFC Wallet, vendors would have to natively support GNU's version.

I wouldn't mind not having a native Linux drive client if they didn't block rsync, which used to work, and now does not. What a stupid decision.

Still avoiding linking that source, huh? There are better ways to try and hide the fact you can't find a good one.

Consider providing a source better than a random screenshot from a Tumblr post, then.

Yep, it's a great idea

Eh, that's the problem with email - it's much harder to change and migrate, because you can't guarantee others will use your new email, much less find out who somehow still has the old email to send messages to and expects a reply from.

Hey folks!

One of my life goals for 2025 was going back to single purpose devices and avoiding algorithm-based media consumption. No smartphones, no AIs, no Spotify.

I'm quite happy with my offline music library, even if it took a while to organize. I use MusicBee (it FINALLY runs perfectly via Wine, if you install some dependencies in your prefix) to listen, find artwork, find lyrics, create playlists and so on and I sync them to my Innioasis, a little iPod Classic clone that supports modern features like USB-C charging.

But here's the thing... how are people finding new music nowadays? I'd assume TikTok and automatic suggestions from your music streaming services, but are there alternatives?

TikTok would probably work for me if I didn't stop using social media, but I did. Apple Music's algorithm sucked tremendously when I used it in the past - it always recommended me Ed Sheeran, an artist I strongly dislike and not anywhere near adjacent to my taste in music (and tapping 'Not Interested' a million times never worked) and Spotify's worked well for a while, but then it started getting extremely repetitive and pushy, "Shuffle" became essentially "Your 10 most recently listened to songs, repeated often, and sometimes we sprinkle two suggestions you already didn't like but we think you should like actually"

Hello Fediverse!

I'm happy to announce the Single Purpose Devices community on Lemmy, a place for discussion, sharing of ideas and recommendations about the growing trend of single purpose devices: rather than relying on a smartphone that brings you anxiety and demands attention, how about going back to the days of carrying a MP3 player, a notebook and pen and a beautiful camera?

While people join this movement for a variety of different reasons, from reclaiming digital privacy, to mental health, to evading anti-customer repair policies and malicious software updates, we can all share our own experiences and tips. See you there!

Hey folks! I have one of the original batches of LCD Steam Decks, with an upgraded SSD.

My battery is still at around 99% of it's original capacity, I love the device, finally found a protective case I enjoy after trying 4 different models, and I don't like the OLED panels used in the OLED model so I'm fine.

But I always thought the fan sounded horrendously bad, specially at bed, with a whiny sound that starts even before it ramps up and only gets worse. You might think wearing headphones fixes it, but I'm not always playing with headphones and my partner trying to sleep most definitely wouldn't agree with the thought that this is a solution. I heard about replacing the Delta with the Huaying fan, but I didn't think the difference would be that big... it will move the same amount of air, right?

Well... I just replaced mine and it's a gigantic difference, I like this upgrade even more so than the SSD one. At maximum speed it does sound like air moving, which is expected, but that's it: air. Not some terrible whining. And when it's running at around 3500 RPM? Pretty much silent, I have to bring the device close to my ears to hear it.

So if anybody out there is still carrying their original models with Delta fans... Do your ears a favor, it's worth getting the better fan. Though I bought mine on Aliexpress for cheaper than iFixit sells it, original part.

If you have a revised unit with the new shielding and the Delta fan, there's a membrane that supposedly helps muffle the whine, I'm not sure how effective that is though, I suspect it still sounds worse than the Huaying.

Also, quick tip: the iFixit guide tells you to lift the metal shielding, but you can replace the fan just fine without doing so. I replaced the thermal paste a while back (early units were also known for having some dry spots) and would rather not disrupt the thermal pads any further, so if you're not comfortable removing the entire shielding... just don't, there's a cut out specifically so you can access the fan connector.

Hey folks!

I'm back to the world of RSS feeds over automated feeds, and I'm looking for personal blogs that are still online and worth reading. By personal I don't necessarily mean we should limit the list to only single person blogs, though those are preferred, but basically no websites with SEO articles. Content should be valuable by itself, not because it optimized 31 keywords with a KD<20 on Ahrefs and includes a link to ExpressVPN.

Thanks!
