AI could kill everyone, though it most likely won't IMO. 10% chance I think. That's still very bad though. Despite the fact that Ilya Sutskever, Geoff Hinton, MIRI, heck even Elon Musk have expressed varying degrees of concern about this, it seems the risk here is largely dismissed because it sounds too much like science fiction. If only science fiction writers had avoided the topic!

i appreciate this philosophically, but it's not really the pragmatic answer I was looking for.

I don't know about this. How much energy is really spent processing this kind of consumer data? how much of that comes from dirty energy sources?

The sad thing is, given physical isolation these days, we'll all be executed alone.

YouTube has a network effect monopoly as well. Who would use a competing service?

really depends on the context. if i'm showing off my cosplay, no. If I'm receiving an award and posing for the camera -- yeah my looks aren't relevant.

I do find the steam deck is kind of buggy, at least for my use cases (usually docked, mostly used for emulation, and so on). But I'm thrilled that it exists, so I'm trying to support it as much as possible.

The most effective thing to do as consumers is to encourage other people not to use google products. The best way to do that is to foment outrage at Google.

Does anyone have a (link to a) good summary of the ruling and rationale?

I find the idea that "Google is the only real choice" kind of odd. There are other perfectly functional and user-friendly search engines. It's not like other monopolies, say, Youtube, where there's no realistic alternative. (I'm not denying that search is a monopoly too.)

You're welcome. I am disappointed by all the downvotes floating around. I feel like your question was sincere and my answer is the cleanest cut through the flak of all of these. A reminder to everyone: downvotes are not for disagreements.

The remarks she makes have actual political sway, especially in the UK. She often talks of how "young women" will be permanently deformed by HRT and how we must stop this threat to womanhood. Well, they recently banned puberty blockers there, and I am sure that her influence had a real effect here. Politicians don't just listen to other politicians.

Something else that I could mention is that despite being only like 50% extreme in what she is saying, she has written a book featuring a transvestite serial killer. On it's own, that wouldn't be so bad -- I mean, in fiction anyone is allowed to be a villain, not just cis straight white men -- but when combined with everything she's been doing with her anti-transgender activism, it's kind of telling that she has some actual hatred, it's not just polite logical arguments. It really makes you wonder what she isn't saying.
