lemmy.ml censors swear words when posting and when retrieving posts, federated or local.
Your instance lemmy.ml censors it for you, RagingNerdoholic's lemmy.ca instance doesn't, so I can see his "sonofabotitch" from my own aussie.zone instance.
Some instances set up swear words censoring, which applies both when submitting and reading, meaning that if you had written the "sonofabotitch" then no one would be able to see it because your instance would censor it on submission.

The lack of indexable pages is a killer, what a waste of human time to be answering the same basic questions because every previous answer gets sucked into the black hole of a walled chat room with bad search.
