Sony as in producer of the disc or movie distributor? I don't know for sure but I'd think that libraries only pay fees to the distributor (who paid Sony for the discs)?

Yeah, esp in a brutal "all day crunch, everyday" industry like anime it was unfortunately very likely they'd be tempted to use slop as a shortcut (jist like in the games industry)
If they'd really wanted to help people, they could give away their status and money and not just peanuts for marketing.

Yeah, I don't think the slop adds anything to it (quite the opposite for me), this could have been a nice (non-slop) text post (a chance to be creative with writing the scene) and OP would've gotten an upvote from me.
