Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it! Do you have a preference for a different instance domain or you’re onboard with any option?

[–] jgrim@discuss.online 3 points 4 months ago

I noticed a lot of other instances keeping everything on a single parent domain. I’ll think more on it if I decide to spin up something new. Thanks!

That’s a good idea. I’ve heard about it, I need to look into it. Is it something you’d consider using?

I put it in a banner and the sidebar. Perhaps, I should make it more clear that other services are here. We have Matrix, Lemmy, Mastodon, & Pixelfed.

Wow, these are fantastic! I loved "Four-Winged Goose," I thought it was AI at first, haha.

Thanks for your input! I'm looking for what is appealing, so your input matters. Thanks again!

WOW, just wow!

Thanks so much! A lot has changed since I wrote this. I need to review and update it anyway. Thanks again, and welcome!

They're trying to control the supply and the demand.

Thanks a lot! I'm exciting to get getting back into focusing on it :)

[Contest] New Banner! (discuss.online)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by jgrim@discuss.online to c/photography@discuss.online

Let’s have a two-week contest for a new community banner!

The current banner on this community is a photo I took. I want to open it up to community members to submit a photo. You can put your logo in the corner or a link to your site.

You can vote to keep the current one; however, I’d love to rotate the community one monthly with a monthly contest.

Submit your photos to this thread. The photo with the most votes will be made the banner.

The content ends at the end of this month. The winner will be made the banner for September. Mid-September, we’ll start the contest for October, etc.

See you there!

Does anyone have a suggestion for a tripod they use? My largest lens is the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens for Canon EF with the Canon 5D IV body.

I'm looking to take sturdy shots at a distance. I sometimes put my 7D on the lens and try to get that crop factor zooming.

I've been poking around but nothing has caught my attention yet. I'll keep looking for blogs and things. Looking for real-world suggestions though.

Thanks!

Please welcome @lazyguru@discuss.online to the discuss.online admin team.

I’ve known lazyguru for over ten years. He’s a close friend. His skills are like mine. He will be able to help contribute to all projects of the discuss.online ecosystem.

lazyguru will help with moderation, system administration, monitoring, and development of new features. Joe has already improved some monitoring and is working on some changes to the infrastructure to make it more scalable. He will soon be helping with SocialCare.cloud once the first beta is released.

Please, take some time to welcome him!

Thanks, Jason

I have these really low points where I cannot do anything, no matter how hard I try. For example, I have a bunch of notifications on Lemmy that I've not responded to. No reason other than that I cannot do it.

For things like mod reports, I act quickly. But the other stuff has been difficult for a couple of days.

What do you do to get motivated or get that drive back? "Just do it" doesn't work for me.

tl;dr;

We use SendGrid to send our emails out. By default, SendGrid enables link tracking. Link tracking was causing issues with allowing users to verify their accounts. In short, I disabled link tracking, and links should work for all new emails in the future.

Contact support if you need your account activated. hello@discuss.online from the email you used to sign up.

Issue

When new users sign up or when existing users reset their password, an email is sent to verify ownership of the account. These emails are sent from us through a service called SendGrid.

SendGrid, by default, will mask all the URLs to enable what they call link tracking. It's a marketing thing to track engagement with email. I have no use for it, but I didn't disable it before.

The issue is that sometimes this link doesn't resolve. An HTTPS error is shown to the user.

Resolution

The quickest and most logical resolution was to disable link tracking. I never use it. I did just that; however, any previous emails sent will still be broken.

I will continue to investigate the issue in hopes of resolving previous links.

If you are unable to verify your account, please email hello@discuss.online from the email you used to sign up. We'll manually verify each account that hasn't been able to be activated.

The small outage from this morning was from a planned update to Lemmy 18.3. Let me know if you notice any issues!

If I need to concentrate, I must have music or a conversation in the background on TV or something. Does anyone else need something else pulling for their attention when they're concentrating? My mind will quickly wonder if I don't have music.

I bought these mod kits to replace the screens and cases for my GB and GBA.

I already have a GB; however, I ordered a GBA on eBay with some games that will arrive next week. I plan to mod that one when it arrives.

I want a backlit screen; however, I tried to use the Everdrive GB x7 and noticed huge drops in contrast. Like the system cannot handle the extra voltage needed by the device. I'm concerned I'll have this problem with the screen swap.

I refuse to use Instagram; however, I've been looking at https://pixelfed.org/. I'm thinking of either joining a server or starting my own. I bought the domain https://social.photo/ (nothing on it yet). I'm not a fan of any of the current names, and I'm looking for something more professional sounding to use.

Is there anything you use besides Lemmy and this community to share?
