I think most here are too generous with the term addiction.

I had to uninstall Hearthstone years ago, because I compulsively played it multiple hours every single day, despite not really having fun playing it anymore. It was either grinding to get cards or tilting on ladder. That's what I would call an addiction.

Edit: After Hearthstone I played a lot of Slay the Spire and after that Marvel Snap. Never more then I enjoyed it, so I wouldn't count those.

I feel like the compulsive thief is missing

I listen to one weekly news podcast (Lage der Nation), that focuses on the most important topics for where I live, which includes big international events.

Getting an update on the relevant happenings once a week, feels way healthier than reading what's going horribly wrong somewhere multiple times a day.

I had to unfollow and unsubscribe a bit on mastodon and Lemmy to reduce the amount of news I see there, but now it's tolerable.

However, I still have to take breaks, when I feel my mental health isn't up for it.

I doubt that. As long as social media algorithms can capture the attention of children, most won't bother with learning more about computers.

The reason previous generations did, was because there weren't so many ways to distract yourself. To play games on the first computer I had access to I had to use DOS. There was no way around it. Now people don't, so they won't.

Absolutely! I feel like they actually have the opposite effect here in Lemmy. People seem to read the click bait title and just down vote without engaging at all. I might need to start tweaking the titles when I post them here.

Now you buy it and try it yourself, if you're interested. You can return the game if it's not too your liking after the first hour of play.

It's a good movie. It's not just a couple of catchy songs and good animation. It's funny, it has heart, satisfying character arcs, cool fight scenes and a decent, meaningful story. I don't think it does anything revolutionary, but it is competently made and has a wholesome message.

I think the issue for most is that it is clearly made for girls and we're still at a time where that means that it can't be considered good. I'm certainly not the first person to observe this irrational devaluation of all things girly (though there are always outliers that do specifically celebrate girly things), but since I got a little older and could let go of my own shame of enjoying some girly things, I have noticed that more and more. I suspect it's because "manly" stuff is celebrated so much. Even the trashiest, mid tier garbage "manly man" movies are somehow considered at least "ironically" cool and good, while girly movies have somehow to achieve way more to get the same amount of respect... anyway, rant over.

I think Kpop Demon Hunters is actually good and you will enjoy it if you like animated action-comedies and can enjoy movies that are targeted at girls (instead of boys).

It's an old WW1 or WW2 story. They were constantly trying to improve their planes and thus analyzed the returning planes to figure out where they needed more protection. However, as the story goes, they did not account for the fact that the bullet holes where only in non-critical spots, because the planes that got hit on critical spots did not come back.
