I've heard the take that Biden is currently in the process of Hadrian's walling up the american empire as we've hit our terminal growth point and are now contracting. Feels convincing to me

Yes. The roman empire entered terminal decline 200 years before it formally fell. The british empire was a powerful imperial bloc right up to the world wars and was only stepped down as a major player by the US & USSR during the Suez Canal crisis. It's only just now post-covid that they're truly entering a state of decay after death

These massive institutions of state power have massive amounts of inertia and take a long time to break down. The american empire could be in decline for several more generations before a new hegemon comes into being

The failure of the neocon project to create an explicit american empire that died in the sands of Iraq

Im not arguing for unipolarity and regardless of what anyone thinks or wants we’re heading in the one direction towards american decline and the rise of alternative power blocs. I just feel that people should have sober expectations about what that has historically meant

Yea but multipolarity almost always guarantees global war between competing capitalist powers

Moms for Liberty has heavily promoted trainings for conservative activists on how to take over school boards, which ought to make clear how we should understand stories like this one, which just sound like a racist tantrum in a Texas suburb. These aren't random or isolated events — they're part of a large, well-organized and well-financed attack on public education across the country.

I feel like it's important to keep the eye on the ball here. The right has been incredibly successful at organizing at the local level and has flipped a lot of seats because of it, and not just in the rural south either.

The US funding and arming far right militias as a means of attacking a geopolitical rival has historically always been a good idea and resulted in very few consequences

There's nothing to indicate that the empire will not just continue on in another form following the collapse of its american iteration

We’re moving slowly but surely closer to the short fiction dystopian sci-fi stories where autonomous fighting machines continue to wage war long past the death of the last human
